I've heard that Yu Yu Hakusho ends up in the same sort of rut as DBZ did... constant battles and tournaments with the people just continually increasing their power. Is this true? I was interested in seeing it, but if it's going to be like DBZ I'm going to pass. (No need to spend money on it if it's going to be predictable, right?)

It only means they haven't seen either or they've only seen a few. People shouldn't bother comparing the two. The only close similarity is that they are in the same genre, driven by action (shonen with martial arts/supernaturnal fighting). There's more engaging emotionalism presented in YYH. Besides action, there's humor, drama and romance. It also has great character development and better plots. Human relationships are actually the center of the story and with that, leads to action/fighting. It doesn't follow the same scheme of a "mighty villain trying to take over the world." They have reasons behind their action, especially the major villains. Thus it would make you wonder if the series even have a "villain" because you can easily symphatize them. That's just a few points that set YYH apart. It bothers me a little when people don't give YYH a chance because they think it's too "DBZ-like," when YYH has a lot more sophisticated going on than that!

Ahh so true I use to think yyh was alot like dbz cuz at the time I was a big dbz fan but as I watched more of the show the more I noticed that it was nothing like dbz, it does have more emotions in it..this show has become my fav. show in short amount of time even though dbz is good yyh is better...

I definitely agree with IMaTicTac. I don't think there's anything the same between the two. And I think YuYu Hakasho is much better...
