Well I think it was the OVA, it was on Sci-Fi UK Thursday night. It was kinda weird. Not sure if I liked it.

First thing was the character design. Its OK but the eyes were just way too big, and there dresses were anoying.

Next thing I just didn't get the character development. One particular scene comes to mind. The girls (sorry can't remember there names) were fighting as the big deity things against the bad guys. One of the girls sees the bad guy attack her friend and says something like "How could you do that? I'll never forgive you!" Now why would she say this? Then anouther thing was when they defeat the little kid in his deity form and he dies, they start crying, why? He was just trying to kill them.

Final thing I just didn't get the plot or why 1/2 the stuff was happening, why were they attacking Earth? What was the thing about deitys (I think it was deity) not be allowed allowed to love mortals (or something like that, sorry I only saw it once I missed quite a lot) and what was this about? Why were they calling Earth "Rayearth"? Why were the people in the "timeloop" thing dying?

This seems like an anime that took a huge manga story (I am asumeing there is one) and tried to stuff it all into a short OVA, so it is hard to understand the characters motives and reasons behind there actions.

Sorry I don't mean to bash the series and maybe if I saw it again I would understand it better. It seemed like it had a lot of potential but its problem was it was done poorly.

lol! Silly, you need to see the series before you watch the OAV

Magic Knight Rayearth is by Clamp..., what did you expect...? :p

I've seen the OAV..., it does seem rather disjointed & abrupt..., it was an okay yarn to watch.., but to get more of a feel to the story you need to see the 49 episode(?) TV series ideally..., the OAV has the same basic premise to the TV series, but the story has been changed..., though IMO it isn't worth the time or the effort..., *runs from the Clamp fans*
I've watched about half of the TV series..., whilst the visuals are gorgeous to look at (as with all Clamp productions).., I got rather bored by the tedium of it all (i.e., it's way too long).., so I never finished it..,
There's also a manga series by Mixx Entertainment, but I haven't picked that up yet...,

It really is a good idea to see the series first--at least the second one (it has so many flash backs, you hardly need the first;) ). OVAs are supposed to be different, though. They take the original characters, change the art a little sometimes, then put them in an alternate universe.
I do agree with things like them crying when their enemy dies, and the totaly confusing plot. Earth's is understandable enough, but Cephero seems a little loopy. As Umi says in the 3rd, "That's crazy!" Why attack us? What do we have to do with them?
Otherwise it seems like a nifty OVA, beautiful and everything!
