View Full Version : Kikyou... (for people who watched over 15 ep's...)

I recently got to realize I really like Kikyou (as a charcter).
She's pretty, she's helping wounded people and make little children happy. She's also protecting Inuyasha and fighting Naraku (in her own special way).

Another thing I found out is that most people thinks she's a b--ch, and that she should die.

Why?

What do you think about her?

She's a bit of an enigma to me. If her true motives are indeed what she claimed, then I suppose she's ok with me. If that's the case, then Takahashi could have just as well not have told us yet, she'd be much cooler that way.

Her personality is errr... what's the word... reserved? I haven't seen the episodes with her in a while, but my memory of her is pretty much like Rei Ayanamis personality. Of course she is evidently capable of great love and helps people out of mercy all the time. Then there is of course the fact that she seems to stay alive by draining the souls of innocent people, which really doesn't fit into her character. Depends of course on what the soul is in Takahashis little Inuyasha world, but this sound weird. It raises the question of why she has to munch up those things on a regular basis, you'd think one would be enough to keep somebody alive.

Another thing I've noticed is that she hasn't been around for quite a few episodes. Could Takahashi be getting bored of her, or is she an important character only later on?

I despise putting spoiler warning in my posts but apparently you shouldn't expect spoilers in a thread like this so guess what cowboy(insert girl if you wish) there are spoilers in this post. Thx Alesil ^_~.

Kykyo was part of a love triangle and I don't think she's a -----. I actually kinda like her, despite of being changed and torn she stays the same person she was. She doesn't remain static like you would expect of a spirit, she's Doggy's exact opposite. She's moving on with her life or un-life like she would if she truly were alive. She doesn't become evil just because she's suposed to be, in a lot of ways she is like Fluff. Another superchar who could crush Naraku in a one-on-one. Where Fluff is his physical superior Kykyo is his emotional master. It's the spider on his back and the essence of Naraku, something he can't kill of dispose of by unattaching. If you think about if she's the reason everything is happening.
She will be a key factor when Naraku is finally defeated, she and Kagome are the only ones that would be able to stand against him in perfect form. Though I think she'll commit suicide when that time comes, a heroine's end. She really should die to tie up the plot, restore ballans and all.
She needs the souls to stay alive, but she only collects them from those that are going to die anyway. It's not against her character because at some point she decided she was going to live, to survive. I think she feels she feels partially responsable for Naraku, her mess and all. Then there's Doggy. She still loves him, the ultimate proof would be Kagome's love for him as they share one soul. She hasn't forgiven Naraku for toying with the both of them, what he made her do, what Naraku did to him, time lost between the both of them.
She has a plan and is always where Naraku is, never far away. The proof for this is in the episode after Doggy, Fluff and Naraku had it out and she arrived at his palace. This was the first time she couldn't sense his barrier. So she did make an appearance in the last few episodes.
Until Naraku finished collecting all the shikon shards she'll just stay in the backround, when Naraku's done she'll kill him. The real question is will she still be able to ? Or will Naraku finally be able to kill her instead.

That post of yours is kinda spoiler-heavy, you might want to add a warning or something.

I'm glad to see that you like her too, and see the complexity of her charcter.

I also like to think she's kind of like Sesshoumaru (which is a good thing, of course)

I understood that all those who hate her are Kagome-Lovers and hate her because she's standing between Inuyasha and Kagome.
I like Kagome, but I'm not so eager to see her with Inuyasha as lovers...
I don't think it would be very interesting or Takahashi-like to bring those two together in the middle of the plot...

btw,
I think that if Kikyo's intentions were to be hidden until the end, it wouldn't justify her presence in the series, and only keep the reader\viewer confused for too long...

Let me guess, all those that say Kykyo is a ----- are girls right ?

It's Van-Hitomi syndrome ^_^. The biggest gripe most girls have with Escaflowne is that Van and Hitomi never kiss. Meh, the romance is nice but neither Doggy nor Kagome seem mature enough to handle a real romantic relationship. Funny how Doggy and Kykyo were ready though ..

I had the impression they were all girls, but there are guys too...

I like Kikyo. However, I think Kagome stated it best...Whoops before I continue

:spoilers: !!!!

She said that she found it hard to believe she and Kikyo shared the same soul they were so different. I like how Kikyo doesn't like her situation, however she is handeling it as much as possible. She wants to defeat Naraku but she realizes she doesn't belong in this realm any longer. I think that as soon as Naraku is defeated, she should become dead again and let Inuyasha live his life out as he had been doing with Kagome before she arrived again. But then another part of me says they should be together because he came back 50 years later only to find then that she died, so those 50 years never occured for him. Then another part of me says that Kagome is much more appropriate for him than Kikyo is...ahh I'm confused again.

Well, who you are really is mostly about what kind of an enviorement you've grown up in. Kagome was born in the modern industrial world with loads of free time, loving easy going parents etc. Kikyo on the other hand was born in the feudal age Japan (an era of suffering for the common folk AFAIK) and raised in a priesthood with strict discipline etc.

Of course, the existance of the soul in Takahashi-land is a big factor here and I have no idea what it is.
