they got the summary all wrong...Akria isn't the name of the organization, it's the name of hte Boy who originally blew up tokyo. and Kaneda and tetsuo aren't brothers...they are childhood friends.

i mentioned this a while back but no one said anything :p
Anyway, Warner bros have the rights and the guy who's directing is suppose to be an anime fan... But come on, It's gonna be Akira with american actors...

Won't work, The screams of Tetsuo, who'll probably be called something like Jake, Rick (insert sterotypical american name ^_^) shouting out to kaneda who ain't gonna be named Kaneda... Prizes to who predicts the correct naming.... :D

I don't like how they plan to go about making Akira a live-action movie. It sounds kind of neat, but chances are that non-fictional beings won't be able to outbeat fictional ones. It's just natural of the movie industries to buy into big hits like Akira though. Doesn't come as a surpise to me... Just watch them screw it up, just like they do with good books.

Anime, Games, and live films just don't mix.

They should've figured that out by now

No criminals commit crimes with the intent to do so, I have no problem making an anime into a film. However, I have problems with people making bad films about animes, mangas, and the like.

I bet the CG for the ending "fleshy" scene will be worth watching, at least.

Okay, is this a hoax because I'm not laughing! :redhot:
Dammit, can't those Hollywood fat-cats come with something original FOR ONCE?!?!??

Is it just me or has history shown that any live action movie based off an anime is not that great? Guyver comes to mind. Anyone else feels this way or the opposite?

 Live-action Akira?! Whatever!

How can they make this live-action without making it look totally campy and unrealistic? How on earth can they simplify the plot to make an American audience understand it? The anime film itself was confusing.

I have low expectations, but would like to know who will play Testuo and the gang.....hehe

Oh and if they change this to make it set in L.A. or something I'm gonna scream.

It's Warner Bros, it's gonna be an American production if they didn't "Americanise" it how would it get off the ground? It wouldn't... Thus, All will be american, US Actors, US setting and most obviously the English language... The screams just won't be the same at all... They sure as hell ain't gonna be called Tetsuo and Kaneda now are they?

1-
We should start getting used to this. Lord of the rings, Abre los ojos(remade to Vanilla sky, the original spanish movie was awesome), h and so many more I don't want to remember.

2-
No criminals commit crimes with the intent to do so, I have no problem making an anime into a film.

Probably he doesn't notice what he's doing, screwing up a masterpiece. I mean, if he was a real anime fan he'd prefer it on anime, wouldn't he? Why not difusing a good movie instead of making a bad one?

3-

:vomit:... as usual.

Of course he could do the unthinkable and make it "good"?

Hey you never know. When I think about it, I could see Akira set in an American wasteland of a city...L.A. seems reasonable after all...

Blade 2 was awesome....

So according to ANS Tesuo and Kaneda wil be brothers. That seems like an acceptable change. They were like brothers really.

I think I can really imagine the whole futuristic biker gang if it were set in the US. This might actually work.

*might*

Of course. :agree: I was merely stating the possiblity, the incredibly, vague, unlikely, and near impossible possiblity that Akira live-action could have some worth.

BTW, will they keep the name "Akira"? Or are they going to Anglicize it and make it more American sounding?

That would destroy the whole identity of Akira if they change the freakin title. I can't really think of another name that holds the same sense of dread and mystery and power...

Akira isn't that hard to prounouce either. But then neither is Gojira and it was changed it to Godzilla so you never know.

Since I really thought about it, I think the title AKIRA is still somewhat funny, if you think of it's a common name... So the US version will be something like:

JOE

(pah-pah-papa!)

Oh yeah, it is a run-of-the-mill Japanese name isn't it? I guess all that mystey is just a foreigner's perspective.

I disagree with your choice of Joe however. Surely"Bob" would be a more accurate pick? hehehe

What about Rick? Jason? (That one could lead to copyright issues :D )

EKnatsumi

I like to see them try to duplicate "TETSUO!" "KANEDA!" "TETSUO!" "KANEDA!!"

"BOB!" "JOE!" or something similar.

Oh, yeah, and those three "kids".........

Nope, won't work. ^_^

Besides, there's too much to Akira that's tough to explain, and it will be tougher to explain if they try to mask it in awesome CGI. Akira is NOT the Matrix, not even close. And as it is, the basic story already has deviations.

I hate how people make the money work nowadays.

When is Hollywood going to make a real sci-fi movie like the Matrix again, and not make sequels or spin-offs?

I wonder if Hollywood would even find it cost effective to reproduce all those explosions? I just wanna see the kids, that would just be reallly really funny. They'll probably get the one 'i see dead' for the part.

*snrk*.......... SWEET JEBUS, that is amusing!

That reminded me of the scene in Titan A.E. were Kale has to name the new planet.

"I think I'll call it.....*weak heroic voice* Bob."
"You can't call a planet Bob!"
"Oh so you get to make the rules around here, Huh? You're the King of Bob, right?"

 eee....That was funny.
