Hi everyone! :wavey:
I know I am new here, but I was reading through the Tenchi Muyo forum and there seems to be hatred towards Ayeka.
I just want to know, why does everyone hate Ayeka? :confused:
I mean, she is alright. She is kinda a snobby princess at the beginning of the OVA series, but as the series progressed, you got to know Ayeka and I don't know about the rest of you, but she kinda grow on me... :heh:
I know that she is a bit winey, but hey, that is ok. Isn't it?
What is everyone opinion on this?

welcome to the forum in general as well as the Tenchi forum, my opinion, well i have started a thread very similar to this, called Aeka, the OAV Princess (or something similar) i think she rocks personally
I was more than disappointed when she was the first to be voted off the Island in the Tenchi Survivors thingy, (though if that is the case i show my diapproval by leaving the island myself).

I don't really hate Ayeka, either. She's a pretty cool character once you get used to her. :)
well, i dont really hate aeka nor do i like her.... im somewhere in between. :B: she's okay sometimes and sometimes she's not. i have nothing against her. anyway, im kinda getting used to her ways. :B:

Ayeka sucks in my opinion... I think the rest of the girls are cool though.. ^^ She is just too bratty and bitchy, man I'm sure glad Tenchi and her don't get together!

Ayeka never caught on with me because she coulds get so snotty about being a princess and how she shouldn't have to put up with all this crap and that crap. Ryoko is just as possesive, maybe more so, but she is so much more lively and entertaining than Ayeka. I also think the others are more attractive than Ayeka :naughty:

Hi. Aeka is stupid she is mean and thinks eveything is hers because shes the princess of Jurai.
If anyone is to be hated it should be Ryoko not Aeyka! Ryoko is the one that acks like such a bi*** and steals Tenchi away, tricks him, etc...

I do like all the characters and I like both Ryoko and Ayeka.

Well, I like Mihoshi, even if she is a ditz. And the reason she bothers Kiyone so much is because Kiyone's so serious. She needs to loosen up a little.
i have no problem with mihoshi. she's really klutzy most of time but her being a klutz is what makes her funny... anyway, i pity kiyone but she really do care about mihoshi.

I think the only character in Tenchi Muyo I hated was Seryu(sp?).

I like Ayeka :D..not as much as some of the other characters in the Tenchi Series but shes ok. Princess of Jurai, sister to Sasami she has alot o think about besides Tenchi. However she can be a bitch:nono: at times. Most of the time its Ryoko that gets her mad. I think the rivalry between Ayeka and Ryoko is one of the things that makes the series special. Also I think the rivalry is one of the most entertaining to watch in all of anime. I would put Ayeka 4th on my favorite characters list in the Tenchi series. Right behind Ryoko. Out of all the girls in the Tenchi Series i probably wouldn't pick Ayeka. But ya kno :D

Love her or hate her... But how much would Ryoko's role be diminished wthout Ayeka to play off of , fight with , pick on. Some people just don't get it. they are a team like Abbot & Costello or Martin & Louis. Ayeka plays the "straight" that sets up Ryokos jokes.

I think Ayeka is the character that changes the most from the OAV, to TV, to Tokyo. In the OAV, Ayeka is very reserved and proper (unless Ryoko's around), and this is desirable among Japanese men (hence Tenchi seems to like Ayeka more than Ryoko). In Tenchi Muyo TV (Universe), Ayeka becomes more violent, and we see Tenchi split between Ayeka and Ryoko. In Tenchi in Tokyo, Ayeka is on crack and is extremely violent and not proper at all, and we see Tenchi leaning towards Ryoko a bit more.
Conclusion: I don't hate Ayeka, but I do like Ryoko more. American men tend to like outgoing women, and Ryoko is definitely that if nothing else. Ayeka is best in the OAV, but absolutely hilarious in Tokyo. Japanese men like very quiet and gentle women, and that's why Tenchi likes Ayeka in the OAV. Anybody see where I'm getting at with this trend?
Yeah, I see where you're going and it does make sense! It's like a comparison Animerica made where they said that Japanese men like bunny-girls and American men like the scantily-clad swords-women! Swords-women is the more modern choice.

i hate ayeka for many reasons....she is really bitchy, whiny, talks about how she's the princess of jurai so she gets whatever she wants, and she thinks she's perfect for tenchi. there's more but i'm havin a brain fart at the moment. :B:
well, ayeka wasnt really that bad in the 3rd tenchi movie, tenchi forever. her personality was a little more pleasing.
Now this is an interesting contrast...
It seems most Old Skool Tenchi fans like Aeka and use Sayuka as a curse word, while most for most new fans the opposite is true.
As for myself, while I like the other characters better, I think Aeka's still an interesting individual, and completely necessary for the series. She and Ryoko go togather like matter and antimatter: by themselves, they're inert, but when you bring them togather... They bring out the best and worst in each other, allowing the producers to give both of them more depth than they would have had alone. The use of contrasting characters is fairly common in anime; just take a look at Evangelion, Macross, or Kimurage Orange Road.
Also, at least in my own opinion, they serve as a sort of metaphor for the modernization of Japanese culture. Aeka, being quiet and demure (most of the time), represents more traditional Japanese values, while Ryoko, outspoken and agressive, represents the modern world. In both OAV and Universe, Ayeka seems to have the early advantage, not frightening Tenchi off by being agressive in her pursuit, and sharing somewhat romantic moments with him, like the scene in the shed in OAV #3 or observing the beuaty of the Earth in the TV series. Later, however, Ryoko grows on Tenchi, and the romantic focus shifts more towards her. (especially in Time and Space Adventures #3 and No Need for a Conclusion) By the time of the movies, Tenchi's choice seems pretty clear.

Wow Someone actually posted with some thought. Congratulations Katfum. I'd like to add a couple more thoughts.
As the story progresses, Both of them begin to show some unsavory characteristics. Their attitudes rapidly degenerate into an unattractive possesiveness. Neither seems to give a flying leap for how Tenchi feels, their only concearn is that the other does not prevail. Some of the other characters show far more respect and concearn for People other than themselves, (Does that make anyone else think of Sasami?) But the strenth of these two push all the others into the backround. Once again it a a great shame that the OVA did not continue as EP 9 hinted that Sasami/Tsunami would play a larger role in the ultimate outcome.

And can anyone give me proof that she is snobby? She loves Sasami to death. She loves her mom to death. Her dad seems like kind of a pain, but I bet she still loves him. She loves Tenchi's Grampa. She loves Jurai and its traditions and culture. She even likes Ryoko enough to stick her neck out for her on occasion (despite Ryoko being the one who aleays starts ----). God she's snobby!
