Not even remotely similar.

Look at the locomotive designs (legs) on the two. The AT-ST has that bird-like leg with the knee joint facing backwards. So far, I've only seen that on Western designs.
As for our friends from Gasaraki, their knee joints face forwards, like a human's. This seems to be the favored design in the East.

They are similar, now when were those pictures from Macross drawn?

See who stole what fom who The sourcebook those picutres were taken form is from 1988.

I think the wasp might have been one of the mechs FASA got in trouble for using that looked like those from robotech.

Did a little reading, yep it was indeed Harmony gold that sued Fasa. Acutally FASA created the mechs in 1984, but Based them off anime shows.

To give the game's 12 basic units the right "anime" look, FASA used mecha designs from MACROSS, DOUGRAM (another anime show), and CRUSHER JOE (an anime space opera movie). However, FASA did this without permission from the Japanese companies. These eventually learned about this, and threatened to sue FASA. An out-of-court settlement was reached on which FASA could keep the existing designs. Thus, some of the mecha in BATTLETECH are based upon MACROSS mecha. In recent years, new FASA publications have made the mecha taken from anime look increasingly less like their Japanese originals, presumably because of the whole fuss.

This also stopped the use of Land Air Mechs in Battletech because Harmony Gold got exclusive rights to them for some reason.

If you want to look up some of the others fomr Battle tech there are the. PhoenixHawk LAM, Locust, Griffin, Ostscout, Stinger, Valkyrie. A good sight wto get the pictures is www.chaosmarch.com just go under T.O> and great houses and the year you want is 3025.

FYI, if you don't know, Macross is 20 years old this year, and Robotech basically copied Macross 100% visually.

That other pic you posted looks something like a...

That is sick.

Well at least they did a good job copying em. All the newer mechs are original designs. (Btw that last design is callede an Archer in Btech)

As for the coppied mecha, Wizkids (who now own Battletech) got the rights from Harmony gold to use the models in games and such. (As the mechs are in alot of the books, including on several of the covers.) http://images.amazon.com/images/P/0451451503.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg

Kinda sad that they copied the mecha almost exactly butm then they didn't think the game would catch on and become as big as it did. Now I'm gonna have to go buy macross to watch the original mecha in action lol.
