So, what do you find is better? The original OVA with 4 episodes, or the newer series with 26 episodes? HMmmmmm....My opinion- The original, because even if it did had less episodes, it still had well done animation...

I have the OVA but yet to watch it. The TV series was pretty good though.

I absolutely adore the OVA. The series... All I've seen is the first two DVDs worth... And at this point I still think the OVA is so much better.

You are right Icantpickascreename as far as the animation goes. It seems like they took more time and paid more attention to detail for the OVA...

I've had the OVAs for a while and loved it. I recently ordered the TV series box set, so as soon as those arrive (release date is like the 26th of this month, or something, than I have to wait for the shipment), I'll see how it is like. I've read and heard good things so I'm expecting alot from it.

OVAs definitely. Actually, I watched the 1st dvd of the tv series, and that's what prompted me to buy the OVAs. The instant I watched the OVAs, I loved them. I've only seen the first two dvds of the tv series, but that was enough to get the gist of what would happen the rest of the series.

The OVAs were creepier, and better animated (even though it was animated in the mid 90s). The tv series was so-so, I guess, but nothing really special. Just another one of your average tv series about teenage vampires going to school and wreaking havoc on the world of the Shinma... hmph.

While the TV series gave me what i wanted to see, it didn't have the depth in story telling and the animemation wasn't what i expected.... I'd still recommend it though for the die hard fans, but my vote is caste for the OVA. ^_^

Ok, to all those people who are saying the OVA has better animation and whatnot..

WTF DO U THINK AN OVA IS!??? *sigh*

It's the same for everything. TV has less detail and less plot and more episodes, cos they gotta make em to fill a season of TV and they have to work very fast and on a smaller budget. It goes like this:

OVA
Movie
TV

OVAs have best quality, then movies, then TV. (Check out the Kenshin OVAs vs Kenshin TV).

As to Vampire Princess Miyu, well I've only seen the first 2 eps of OVA and own 5 DVDs of TV. The TV is pretty disappointing (unlike the OVAs) but some sites have hinted that it gets good near the end. Im waiting to find out wtf is up with Reiha cos she talks funny. ("I became We", "She is me").

But Hellsing is far better vampire anime. I dont like anime which feel the need to make the superheroes high school students.. or if they must, I dont like them making up some bodgy excuse. Miyu is supposed to be hell old, but she still acts like a teenager and she walks around in her uniform CONSTANTLY. (If I was a Shinma hunter, I'd wear something a bit better than a short skirt).

VPM Movie wasnt really that good once you've seen the OVAs. It was just a summary of them from what I have seen.

I liked it for what it was. My take on it is that it was like a dark and disturbing version of Sailor Moon, basicly magic girl anime with a dark little twist.
Comparing it to the more hard core vampire titles isn't really a fair comparison. I really did not expect to see knock your sox off fighting scenes or gratuitous blood and gore. Although I wish there was more to some of the fight scenes and more story development via 2 part episodes and such.
I agree the OAV's gave better background on the motivations of the shinma.
All in all I was entertained by the VPM TV series.
