Episode 11... Totoro?

It was class seeing Totoro making a cameo appearance :D
Still both anime's are made by different companies, quite a surprise to see it in Kare Kano, I'd guess they would have asked for permission?

Most likely they did... but the thing you have to understand about totoro its like mickey mouse here in the states... if you see a mickey mouse doll in a tv show you prolly wouldn't think twice about it. So seeing a totoro doll in an anime show, or hearing the theme song in a ring tone in a live action drama would have zero arousal to anyone watching those shows in japan.

Thing is, that's the only Totoro I've seen in any non Ghibli, japanese program so it's special for me :D

Hideaki Anno (who may I add worked as an animator on Nausicca) actually acknowledged Miyazaki as his mentor. So I guess the appearance of Totoro is a tip of the hat. ;)
(indeed, such things are not unusal for a Gainax production)

Mind you, I heard that Anno was offered a job at Ghilbi on the strength of Eva. He refused. :confused:
