View Full Version : Inuyasha DVDs???
I was thinking of collecting this series and I found some of the DVDs at Amazon. My question though is how many episodes come on one disc? The product description doesn't really say and the prospect of getting more then 20 of these DVDs seems a little ridiculous.

::looks at Amazon's site:: Definitely the official Viz releases. 78 minutes viewing time (roughly 3 episodes). I can vouch that the first dvd only has 3 episodes (saw it in Media Play), and since the second dvd has the same run time listed on it at Amazon, we can safely assume it's also only 3 episodes. Viz is stupid that way.
You have a few options:
You can download the whole series. - not too recommended, unless you don't mind inferior video quality and occasionally (or usually, depending on the fansubbers) incorrect subtitle translations.
You can purchase the series on vcd. - not recommended, since the vcds would most likely just be vcd versions of the downloadable episodes, and thus still have inferior quality and variably poor translations. Also, if the vcds are made in the US, then they're illegal, and if they're made in Taiwan or China or somewhere else in Asia, you'd have to pay shipping as well and would be more likely to end up with odd subtitling.
You can go to ebay and purchase one of the dvd series available. - So not recommended, since these "complete" dvd series are either the Japanese region 2 sets (and thus won't have English subtitles or dubbing and won't play on many American dvd players and some dvd-rom drives), or it'll be Chinese or Taiwanese bootlegs, which again would most likely be dvd rips with odd subtitles and slightly inferior quality (believe me, I know, I've seen the Chinese dvd version of Gensomaden Saiyuki and heard about the Chinese dvd of Slayers Next). Also, if they're bootlegs, which they'll most likely be, it's technically illegal to purchase them in the US when there's a domestic release. I say "technically" because, due to international laws and such, it's not really illegal for these Asian companies (like SonMay, for instance) to be making these copies, and also not technically illegal for them to sell said copies. But still, I don't recommend this option. And, it seems that authorities have been cracking down on international copyright laws anyway, since SonMay and other bootlegging companies seem to have stopped.
Last, you can suck it up and purchase the Viz release on dvd and suffer through a 90+ episode series released three episodes per disc.
...
Or you could team up with me and we can take 2x4s to Viz's company headquarters and knock some sense into people.

Actually there is another option. Skulk around and wait for a non-American, non-Japanese release. Of course you'd have to keep your fingers crossed that:
A. There's an English language or sub track on the disc. (Three cheers for the UK!)
B. There's a Japanese language track on the disc.

True, there's that too. Didn't think of it. Thank you, Nagha's Revenge.

Just a word of caution of getting Inuyasha bootleg DVDs.
My friend bought the bootlegs (part 1 to part 4 - Taiwan imports) and got a nasty shock. For part 1 with about 20++ epsiodes, he noticed the picture was fuzzy on the top screen. (about 1/20 of the screen) for several of the episodes. Part 2 was okay but for Part 3 there was one episode where there was 'double vision'. For part 4, there was one episode (probably 74) where a glaring black line appeared in the middle of the show for 15s. He went to exchange the dvds but the exchanged discs showed the same defects. There was also advertisements on some of the epsiodes in part 3 or 4.
I also intended to get the dvds but because of these defects, I forgo the decision. The alternative is to wait patiently for the anime episodes to be released in boxed sets which might be more affordable than buying single disc.
Hey, Yasei Chi. I like you'r style! We should take some 2X4s...or just e-mail Viz and yell at them for being dumb***es. I am very angry, and I understand no Japanesse. I can't even spell it for God's sake.
