If you had to put Gasaraki into a Genre, what would you list it as???

Action?
Drama?
Romance?
Thriller?
War?

Most times I call Gasaraki a Military Drama, but that doesn't fit into a traditional category. And really, it has a bit of all 5 listed, but it does not specially fall into just one. So what would you list it as???

I'd call it a "Socio/Political/Military Drama-Thriller mixed with some Sci-fi, Mecha Action, Mythology, Occultism, and a dash of Romance, and topped off with a mysterious and philosophical undertone.

Its like trying to fit Eva into a catagory.... It just doesnt fit into any of them because of all the plot lines...

The more I look at it and the more I think about it this is a series that is much like Evangelion. It can be viewed on several levels as a political drama, a military mecha show, a historical fantasy, or as romance series. I think that restricting it to a single genre is unfair to the obvious work and care that was put into the creation of this multi faceted story :)

if you want to classify Gasaraki its a Political/Military Thriller. The main character is the oldest brother, he is driving to change japan politically. However, the means he uses are heavily military so you gotta throw that in there.

These anime are a NEW genre...

Gasaraki fits nicely into the Eva Genre...

The Eva Genre consists of Violence, drama, childhood angst, deep symbolism, big mechs, etc.

I dont think a story about a prominent japanese family attempting to change japan and the world using mecha and spiritual powers, mainly using their youngest son ( Yushiro Gowa )as the puppet being childhood angst. He doesnt rebel against what hes asked to do, he just wants to feel loved and cared for. He never argues about fighting against Symbol, nor doing the dance. He just hates being left out of the circle. This is typical for a japanese family, what his family asks him to do, he does, and he doesnt really feel the need to rebel. This i beleive is more a realistic show of how a high-social standing japanese family acts.

Nor can you call this serious overly violent, sure it has people dying, but you dont see another mecha eating the other one, or someones brains splattered against the wall.

Im heavily offended that this series is put into any catigory with eva other than the fact it has mecha in it.
