View Full Version : Inu-Yasha: anime vs. manga
For those of you who've seen the anime and read the manga, which one do you like better? Do you think there's that much of a difference between them? Are any of the relationships noticeably different between anime and manga?
I'm reading the manga (as put out by Viz), as well as watching the anime, and I was curious what you guys think about the anime vs. the manga...

since no one has replied, i guess i will. I like them both. the manga is good when you don't have a T.V and the anime is good when you do. i think they both have their ups and downs.

I'll quote my own response from the Inuyasha Forum (http://animenation.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=111) over at Anime Nation (http://www.animenation.com).

Personally, I prefer the anime. Yes, it is a little toned down from the manga in terms of violenve and nuidity, but it's not really all that much, or at least enough to degrade the quality of the show. Also, the anime follows the manga quite well, IMO, and it's in full color and moving and looks great. It's great seeing the action animated in color in full motin with all the sound effects.
I thought the seiyuu did a great, if not perfect job. I felt like most, if not all, the characters had a perfectly suiting voice. Yukino Satsuki perfectly captures Kagome's innocence as a young high school girl, and yamaguchi Kappei perfectly captures Inuyasha's wannabe bad ass but has a soft side attitude. Of course, there's many other great VA jobs as well. Plus, I think the music composed by karu Wada is very good.
Sure, there are some filler episodes in the anime that were never in the manga, but I still found most of them entertaining, and some were very good and actually helped the story or helped develop characters.
So yeah, I personally prefer the anime, but that's not to say I don't love the manga. :D

I really can't say which I prefer. ^_^
The manga is nicely detailed, is portable, is good inspiration for my own attempt at manga, and I don't have to pull up the right episode and cue it up to the right point when I want to see something. I just get out the manga and flip open to the right page. I get a little more insight to some of the episodes, and get to practice reading kanji and kana.
On the other hand, the anime is animated, in full color, and has wonderful voice actors (as has been mentioned). Yamaguchi Kappei is high up on my list of favorite seiyuu. The filler episodes aren't obviously filler, and are entertaining as well. The anime also has beautiful music that you can't get with the manga unless you buy the soundtrack (or download mp3s) and play it while you're reading the manga.
Both have an entertaining story and, to me, engaging characters. Both have beautiful art, and their funny and serious moments. Both have a cute dog-boy too. ^_^
So I like 'em both equally.
That was so pretty :D.....whatever. yeah i agree with you.
Yeah.... I love Yamaguchi Kappei's voice... It's perfect for Inu-Yasha. Yukino Satsuki's voice is perfect for Kagome. I love the animation of the series; for a lot of scenes, the animation just adds something to the story that the stills from the manga can't. And I love the music... sometimes while I'm reading the manga I find myself humming the music that would be playing in the anime for the same scene. Yes, I'm very weird, I know... :heh:
There are scenes that the anime doesn't even have, though. Just last weekend, I was a bit surprised that one of the scenes that I thought was pretty important in how the story would go was left out completely. And a little disappointed, because I liked the scene.
Plus, it's nice to be able to read the manga anywhere, and not have to have a TV to be able to watch it. Besides, reading the manga helped improve my feeble attempts to draw fan art for the series... :D
I guess overall I prefer the anime, because I can see the characters in action, and hear their tone of voice when they're snapping at each other... But I still have to love the manga.

i agree with you too :D they both have ups and downs

I like the anime. Theres colors, sound, and I can get it free. To put it simply, I'm a lazy cheapo whos a sucker for pretty colors. The manga that I read from it is so close to the anime that I dont feel guilty like I usually do
...lazy bumb. you really should read the manga, it's pretty good. besides, if you really like colors, you can desecrate the book, and color it....

Oh, dheu? Which scene are you talking about that was left out of the anime?
MANGA SPOILERS...
The scene after they've just all met Naraku for the first time... Inu-Yasha forced Kagome to go back to her own time, but of course she finds her way back. After Naraku escapes and Inu-Yasha's moping about Kikyo, Kagome decides to head back to her own time. Just as she's about to drop down into the well, Inu-Yasha finds her there. He asks her if she's going back already, and then admits that he actually did want to see her while she was trapped in the future.
That scene seemed kind of important to me, since later on in the manga they make direct references to it. But I guess the anime found a way to work around that. We'll just have to see when the next episode is on Adult Swim... :)
dheu
now you make me hate adult swim again for leaving that out :D
 Yeah, it was a really sweet scene.... I was kind of disappointed to not see it. But I guess the relationship between Kagome and Inu-Yasha comes about a little slower in the anime than it does in the manga, so it might make sense if the anime cuts it out...
And it wasn't Adult Swim that cut it... I don't believe it's in the anime, period. So don't start hating AS quite yet. :D

i guess i shouldn't hate them for the 2 week break, and showing it at like 1:00 A.M either? :D, i'm not angry...yet. but i will be if the makers of the anime pull anymore....no swearing right ;)... with taking stuff out from the anime that SHOULD have been in...i needed to get that out!

Ah. Ok.
Yeah, but don't hate them for it not being included in the anime ('cause it's not in the Japanese either). And anyway, anime often runs differently (even marginally) from manga, so don't expect everything to be identical. I guess it's kinda like movies made from books. You can't always expect them to get everything right, or include everything. ::shrug::

I don't hate them. They're doing too good of a job on the anime for me to hate them. :D I didn't expect everything to be the same, I even like some parts of the anime better than the equivalent parts in the manga. I just was surprised that they cut the scene, because I thought they would have to use it later on... But I'm sure they worked around it. It will be good to see more of the series on Jan 13, and to see what they did with it.
This is very quickly becoming one of my rare top favorite anime...

yeah they are doing a pretty good job with it, and i did expect some stuff wold be missing...but some of the important ones!

::shrug:: ok. whatever works. Yes, they did work around it. I didn't notice anything was missing while watching the anime.
