unfortunatly, not all people do :(
I think it is a descent anime that was released during a year of fantastic anime. I liked it, but had hoped for more.

I enjoyed it a lot, and i think it is an anime that has to be seen more then once to get its full potential, but the ending left me without a sense of closure...of course I have to read the mangas and play the video games when they are released around here, I heard they are making another .Hack//Sign Tv series, any truth to that?

no more .hack//SIGN anime being made. its a prequel to the game, if youre looking for a continuation/completion, play the games. the first game starts out when the anime ends- literally. spoiler: (the game starts out with Skeith chasing Aura)
anyhow, the new aniem series being made is based on the manga. .hack//Legend of the Twilight Bracelet, for simplicity's sake, i'll refer to it from now on as (in future hack threads) .hack//DUSK.

Isn't there also a spin off OVA, .hack//liminality or something like that. Saw it in NewType magazine alongside .hack//sign and .hack//DUSK.

i wouldnt call the show spin-off (its not a sequel or a parallel universe either)...anyhow yea, .hack//liminality is the OVA (that comes along with the game). the purpose of liminality is to show the effects of "The World" in the real world (all of .hack besides liminality deals with situations in the game world).
wait, if liminality is not a spin-off, sequel or a parallel universe, then what exactly is it? the best answer i could dsay is...its a supplement  to understand it better, its in the same vein as the Gundam Side Stories

two thumbs up. i give it 5 stars. out of 10, i give it an 11.
HOWEVER, (god only knows how much ive said this in other threads and forums) the show is NOT for everyone. you'll see people who hate the show (which they will post sometime in this thread later on) and people who LOVE the show (me, hehe). i used to say, if you like MMORPG's* or RPG's, then you'll love this show, but thats not always the case, so i say, watch a few and see if you like it. if it bore you the first four episodes, then i suggest you stop watching.
if anyone wants to research .hack in general, a good site is www.blackwings.net/hack
(and no, its not my site)
*speaking of MMORPG's, Everquest is taking away all my social life away, its so damn ADDICTIVE. no wonder they call it evercrack
when is it going to show or at least be onsale in Australia:(
probarbly never

actually, its one of the titles Madman licensed, so it should be out when at least 3 or 4 volumes are out in the US
it's one of the anime i really enjoyed, i quite like the story and the characters (the whole MMORPG thing range a bell)
got the first dvd on pre-order from the states, but will be buying the madman dvd's for the rest of the series
I enjoyed it, but there was not much of a climax (which I was expecting) or resolution to some things. No final battle. Damn.
I got the feeling that the cycle started over again?
The game...is it going to be translated?

I've only seen the first four episodes, but it's good stuff from what I can tell, but I don't think it so good to the extent that I'd watch it over and over again. Maybe it gets better though since they start chasing him (uh, her) down and so bring in some of the action.
Peace. V
IMO in the world of Videogames one of the most boringest things is watching someone play a MMORPG.
.hack//sign is like that but it looks real good and has excellent music playing throughout it (one of the best osts of 2002).
I admit I didn't watch the full series (11 eps out of 26) and I have no intention of doing so unless my friend buys the dvds when Madman release them or they are screened on Australia TV.
Anyway even though I'm a fan of rpgs and slowly paced animes (Crest Of Stars, Infinite Ryvuis) .hack//sign just didn't do anything for me. The first episode was good, the animation was high class (but so is every other big budget anime), the music was pretty good (key of twilight the clear standout) but the characters were flat and the plot just went nowhere, just going around and around the roundabout and not turning off anywhere.
I will check out the next series and I must say Bandai have a great marketing plan for this anime since you have to watch 4 series, play 4 games and read the manga to get the big picture. Guess they don't have to rely on Gundam.....

some notes i thought people would be interested about:
-bandai (usa) entertainment is going with Crimson Knights, instead of the more literal (and better sounding) Scarlet Knights for the official translation.
-Puchiguso, the chocobo equivalent in .hack, is now Grunty.
-.hack//liminality will be out before the tv series (throught the game)

reading the manga isnt neccesary if one has seen the second tv series. speaking of which, i recomend the second series to everyone...until i found out that they're going to have the same director :( i mean, i loved .hack//sign and all, but im not even sure if im gonna like this nes series (since the director's other work, Noir- bored me until my balls started hurting). oh well, i'll just see and wait
Grunty? gak.
Yeah, Hack Sign reminded me a lot of Noir, and Noir was good. The music was similar type (same composer?), but Noir was better than Hack Sign IMO.

Hack Sign does focus on a very small group of people and that Hack Sign is a very very slow moving anime however, if you can bear through that, the outcome overall is good. and I wouldn't see it as the best, the story isn't full filling as much as others are, however it was a very good series that came out this year.

hehehe... Ya, watching someone playing a MMORPG is super boring, just hours of repetitive action. Unless they are on some kind of raid or some planed event it’s all about advancing level or skill. After years of playing door games, UO, EQ, and countless other MMORPGS you notice a trend.
.hack//sign did not have as much action or plot continuation that I had hoped for. Even though I like slow paced anime, I had to take a break from .hack//sign for a few weeks before I finally decided to finish it off. I was glad the story started to pick up in the later episodes but I was left with too many unanswered questions in the end. I assume the reason for the unanswered question is because they want you to finish the story by playing the game, reading the manga, and watching the OVA. Personally I think they could have done a better job at making people want to continue this epic other then forcing you to get the other .hack projects to answer all the questions they threw at you. If they made a solid series I’m sure people would have wanted to continue being immersed in the .hack projects.
From my understanding, wasn’t .hack//sign really popular in Japan? I remember reading some rating guides and they listed .hack//sign as number one in Japan for awhile.

yes, its massively POPULAR in japan. the games outsold Final Fantasy XI (a REAL mmorpg to boot). and the anime (believe it or not) got higher ratings Azumanga Daioh in more than half the episodes (based on the Newtype USA's ive got). not to mention it was voted number one anime in the newtype poll in october (it was in the top 3 for the past 3 or 4 months i think, i'll check on that [where's Westlo's newtype threads when you need it ;) ])
anyway, the game has been getting praises everywhere. Dot Hack WILL be the anime of the year for 2003, im pretty sure (that is, unless they decide to bring over FF X-2 this year in the US). one reviewer even mentioned, Dot Hack will do to RPG's as Chrono Trigger set the standards in story-telling. i dont know about other poeple, but thats enough to sell the series
Um John the animenation guru isn't allowed to translate then because ADV must think some people seeing the top ten list would lose them sales for Newtype Magazine...idiots.
And from what I heard the first hack game is solid by no masterpiece and japan had hack sign airing on tv which won't be happening in America and from what I heard ff11 blows....
Look out for Star Ocean 3 people after Star Ocean 2 and Valkryie Profile and Square slipping Tri Ace will show what they are made of.

did ADV actually contact him and told him to stop translating the top 10? idiots indeed...
(btw, hack sign will also be airing in the US )
Yeah Depression made a thread in the coming anime forum about what happened to the polls and John said ADV asked him not to translate them anymore.
And Japan had it on free to air compared to CN and anime has a much bigger audience in japan, I feel most of hacksign's buyers will be videogame players and boy are some of them going to be disappointed. Hack/sign is just not CN friendly though maybe bandai will put Infinite Ryvuis on CN since their doing hack.

i dont know how it is in Aus, but pretty much everyone in the US has CN. anyhow, you never know, im not saying all of the US will like .h//S (and like ive said a million times before, .h//S is not for everyone), i know some people will be dissapointed with it, but i also know some people will love the series. all i care for is .h//S getting exposure. but yea, you never know, Pilot Candidate got high ratings, so after that, pretty much anyhting can happen.
to end this post, i know how you feel. ive been saying the same thing about Noir (actually, the same exact thing, i said some people will be dissapoined)
