so then ok so most people think that Liliths soul is in rei. Now forgive me if this is ovious but I havn't seen the movies yet. Who's soul is in Eva 00 is it ritsuko's mother, Rei doesn't have a mother so who is it?

Well, I believe that it is Ritsuko's mother(Naoko Akagi, right?)'s soul inside of Eva-00. As others have said for supporting evidence, there's the fact that Eva-00 tried to kill Rei and Shinji (Well, Rei because Gendo had chosen her over Naoko, and Shinji since he's the son of Yui). And I think that Eva-00 also tried to kill Gendo, but I really need to have my marathon on Evangelion, starting to forget some of the things that have happened. . .

I thought Naoko Akagi committed suicide after the completion of the 3-Magi??
Like rei came along and pissed her off and Naoko killed rei and then when PHHHHHEEEEEeeeewwwww......SPLAT!! on the Magi?

I know this may sound dumb but if Naoko Akagi's soul is in UNIT 00 and she hates Rei so much how come the EVA syncs with Rei?

Ok well im surprise there are paople who are yet to hear my rant on this subject. It has already been discussed on this MB, maybe more than once.
Naoko, is not in 00, there is no evidence at all for this. If she was Rei would have no hope of synching at all.

Yeah, the commonly held belief is that Naoko's souls in Unit00, even though there's pretty much no evidence.
There's only 3 dead characters in the series, Naoko, Yui, and Asuka's mum, and since a soul has to be in Unit 00, I guess there's no one else that it could belong to. It wouldn't be too hard to assume that Naoko is in Unit 00.
but assumtions are dangerous - escpecially when you're dealing with eva.
Naoko's soul is not in Eva00 and there is nothing that gives evidence that is is...and Asuka's mother's soul is not in Eva02 coz she hanged herself
i have no idea why this debate is goin coz the reason eva01 is goin berserk and not the rest is coz yui's soul is in it and therefore it is semi-semi-human...

Kaji. . .wrong, at least in part. Eva-02 definately has a soul, as shown in EoE (Air, Asuka saying that she can't lose, since her mom is with her in the Eva. Her mothers voice in the Eva. Kaoru saying that the Eva's soul is shutting itself off, thus he can control it).
Also, Eva-00 goes berserk (or out of control, I guess) twice. Once with Rei as pilot and another time with Shinji as pilot (both happen near the same way). And Eva-02 almost goes berserk again the Eva Series (EoE, the Eva starts to move without a power source. . .until a Lance of Longinus (copy) splits its hand).

Asuka's mother had nothing to do with NERV or the evangelions...she was just a scientist who hung herself...
Kaji alot of that can be derived from the series if you look hard enough. Some are new but insubstantial.

Kaji, your quite wrong, Asuka's mother had a fair bit to do with The eva projects, as did her husband it would seem.
If anything it seems nearly everyone in NGE was connected with the projects in one way or another.

Ok well asuka's father might have been working on the building of the evas. we can not be too sure.
as for her mother- easy, the same as Yui, some sort of prelimary pilot. We know this as Asuka's father is talking with someone, saying that the contact experiment may have been the cause of her maddess, but he says, there were probly other problem first.

Not at all.
Karou who was full Angel could only synch with 02 as Asuka's mother was hiding., Thus there was no one in control of 02 so Karou could use it.
Even if Rei was pure Angel amd Naoko was in 00, she would have no hope of Synching if Naoko did not want her to.

but i just remembered, in the ep where Shinji tries to sync with 00 he says that there is something trying to get into his brain and then he sees Rei - then 00 goes berserk - what do you think? my minds fuzzy right now...
There's something I think that's been overlooked-- if Naoko's Soul is in Unit 00. She was human, and she would have been capable of feeling emotions. Why did she kill herself? Because, partly, she felt guilty about killing Rei. If that's true, then she still would have felt the guilt with Rei as the pilot of Eva00. It was mentioned at the beginning of the series that Rei had trouble syncronizing with her Eva, and they were surprised that Shinji could do so with Unit 03 so quickly. I think that Naoko's soul is in Unit 00. And I say this with the basis of all the series, Anime and Manga with speculations flying.

There is no evidence suggesting that Naoko is in 00 in the series, nothing at all from what i have seen. im sort of reading the manga, but also not really.
(Only Tenchi is worthy of Manga reading)
I would be interested in hearing what evidence for Naoko being in 00 you have Hiyoku.
Rei synched in 7 months. asuka was piloting since she was a bout 5 or so, and she was not regarded as being ready to pilot until a month or so after the angels showed up.
Shinji was destined to be in 01, and synched immediatly.
One of the interesting things is that Rei 111 is never taken near an eva. My speculation, She would be almost as good as Karou, inthat Rei111 is the only Rei to realises she is Lilith, and an angel.

I don't think she needs any spiritual connection with an eva's soul to synchronise with an eva, same with Kaoru since they have "angelic" properties. Dummy plugs simulating their thought patterns can activate evas, like the eva series and unit-01 occasionally.
Since Kaoru could control unit02 as long as there was no "dominant" soul, maybe Rei could synchronise with unit-00 as long as the soul is not dominant. When she first tried, I think her mind was too weak to control the dominant soul properly, and it went out of control against people who she hated.
It could be very likely that Naoko is in Unit-00 but the soul is not dominant and hiding. This could be because she was so bitter and emotionally shattered before she killed herself. Her attempts for revenge failed, totally supressing her, allowing Rei to fully control Unit-00.

I make my basis for the fact that Naoko's soul is, in fact, in Eva00 for multiple reasons, many of which I am not going to delve into right now. But Perhaps part of the reson Ritsuko couldn't pilot the Eva00 was because she also had a love interest with Gendou, and she seemed more attached to the Magi in the memory of her mother.
