View Full Version : .hack//dusk
Well a thread for this was bound to happen sooner than later.
Here's screens and an opinion from the first episode of this series.

The girl in the middle top pic reminds me of something from card captor sakura, and I like the design on the guy in the top right screen.
Guess I'll check this out and Wolf's Rain.

Fatal can answer that but this is the second and new hack tv series.

its just that the ova is an introduction to the hack sign game which will be coming sometime in the near future. and the char from the screenshots look like the char in the game. thats why i was asking.
Now I don't know much about hack since I gave up on the first series but the characters the sister and brother play in this game, aren't they the characters in the videogame which is related to the OVAS?

Hmmmm... .hack in SD mode? ooOooOoo... Hmmmm this makes me want to watch for some reason. :D
Wolf's Rain does sound promising, but if the opening song was done by YK then how come the review only thought that the op song was only ok? :(
Anyways I wish I had time to watch some of these eps.

Same, part of the reason i didn't like the first hack apart from the pacing, characters, wasted potential etc. Was that it took itself to seriously at times and hopefully this hack is abit more fun^^.

Unlike RahXephon with Wolf's Rain Yoko Kanno is doing all the music for it. The opening theme is sung by Steve Conte who does the version of Rain on the first Bebop ost and I believe he does a few songs in the movie for bebop (Fatal should know this too probably).
Maaya Sakamoto sings the closing theme and thats the song the reviewer was talking about "with the ED song sung by Maaya Sakamoto. "I thought it was an okay song on first listen. ^^".
Perhaps he's hard to impress but it's hard for a song to grab you straightaway.
Anyways I wish I had time to watch some of these eps.
Can't get them? too busy to watch them or a combination of both?

yep. and theres a reason for that, i didnt want the game spoiled (dusk happens 4 years after the game), so i requested dot hackers (a bunch of .hack fanboys) to send me a raw version :D
music is great, i like the opening, really catchy i thought. and as the guy said in the link, the ED is kinda dissapointing considering it from See-Saw
does that have anything to do with the .hack ova?
the ova's...i dont think so. dusk is kind of like a continuation of the back story from the game, so i guess you could say it has something to do with the game. and also, the main characters Rena and Shugo win a contest and the prize is a character skin that looks like Kite and Black Rose's so thats why they look like them (thats because some idiots over at chat thought that Shugo and Rena are actually Kite and Black Rose, which they are not)
I finally got around to watching the first episode of this.
It seems to me that everything that most people complained about not being in //SIGN is in //DUSK (as much as you can gather anything from one episode).
Style wise I think that those who disliked the pacing and dialog based interactions of //SIGN will like //DUSK for it's fast paced comedic nature and it's action scenes.
Ironically that's why I like //SIGN more than //DUSK, the chibi character design and comedic nature of the show seems more aimed a younger audiences than //SIGN (but //DUSK does have more action scenes which is a plus :)).
The music, I believe the opposite of what Fatal Outlaw said. I didn't really like the op song (sounds too childish for my liking, but it suits this show) the ending song I liked (even before I found out it was done by See-Saw).
Overall I like what I seen so far and I'll continue watching it. It's not //SIGN but //DUSK has it's strong points (thou I would really like to see a sequel to //SIGN someday)
I think DUSK happens after LIMINALITY, but ya.
Anyway, wolfgirl in episode 2 owns me.

DUSK happens after .hack//QUARANTINE (vol. 4 of the game)
ok it goes like this
hack//sign
hack//liminality
then the 4 hack games
then hack//dusk which is the MANGA not this new series but the manag is about this new series
the new series is
.hack//Legend of Twilight Bracelet

.hack//DUSK is the manga AND the new series, the new series is based off the manga so they're the same thing. to people who may be confused, .hack//Legend of the Twilight Bracelet is the same as .hack//DUSK, .hack//DUSK is just the short cut for saying .hack//Legend of the Twilight Bracelet.
also, the real japanese title for .hack//DUSK (or .hack//Legend of the Twilight Bracelet) is .hack//Tasogare no Udewa Densetsu

to give a more decriptive post on the chronological order of Dot Hack:
.hack//AI BUSTER (not yet released, Novel)
.hack//SIGN (TV Series, 26 episodes),
.hack//INFECTION (1st of 4 games)
.hack//MUTATION (2nd of 4 games)
.hack//OUTBREAK (3rd of 4 fames)
.hack//QUARANTINE (4th of 4 games)
.hack//DUSK* (manga and tv series)
(.hack//LIMINALITY, the ova's, goes hand in hand with the games, for example, OAV 1 should be watched after playing game 1, ova 2 after game 2, so on and so on)
*as mentioned in my previous post, the title (.hack//DUSK) is interchangeable with the titles .hack//Legend of the Twilight Bracelt or .hack//Tasogare no Udewa Densetsu
EDIT************
one of the most frequent questions i get from people is "Do I have to finish watching the anime before playing the game?", now this is an important question since the game actually comes out first than the series (not counting the TV airing of SIGN on CN which premieres 2/1 at 3 pm EST). the answer is, Yes, you can play the game while watching the anime (especially since the CN airing is once a week). naturally, it will spoil things for you, but only the events relevant to the entire .hack universe, there are numerous events in SIGN that are exclusive the SIGN, so its safe to play the games even if you havent seen the series. after all, the game came out while .hack//SIGN was airing (actually, it may have come out first)

AHha, the music is really good. It sounds like music from Chobits so I'm guessing it's from the same people who did it.

If you're talking about the opening theme, you're right, it's by Round Table ft. Nino, the same ones who did the opening to Chobits.
(Wow, I rarely post here at AB...)

The first episode of .hack//SIGN aired on April 3rd, 2002 while the first volume of .hack, Infection Expansion, wasn't released until June. So yeah, it came out while SIGN was airing.
And of course, if you wan't to get technical, it's not 4 games, it's 4 volumes of one game. heh.
The reason the characters look the same is thusly:
Blackrose( the pink haired heavey swordsman) is a character in the .hack//infection game being released on the ps2 this Feb. .hack//dusk(or as i've been viewing it"Legend of twilights bracelet") is based off of the manga which takes place after the game. The Blackrose you see in the //dusk series is a girl who won a contest to play as the Blackrose character(who is by then famous) The character had been retired(dunno why yet). Honestly it can all be very confusing, but I'm in love with this whole world they've created. I played the .hack game and it's fantabulous, especially if you've seen the .hack//sign series already.

They say in the show that Blackrose and Kite's characters have been retired because they were the only ones to solve the final puzzle of The World.
So hows the show now after viewing more episodes?
I'm enjoying it a lot after 5 episodes. It's certainly a lot more light-hearted on the surface than SIGN, but there's still a "serious" undercurrent there.
I'm not sure whether it will be as rewarding overall as SIGN was, but it's a lot more fun.
I just had a thought. I think that the actual plot development of DUSK is happening at a similar rate to SIGN, but whereas in SIGN they spent most the rest of the time talking about the plot development, in DUSK they get on with playing the game. Wacky hi-jinks ensue.
