Does anyone have any ideas as to who killed Kaji or who had him killed and for what reason was he killed?

I'm sure there are a number of threads on this board which you can get an idea from. The thing is there is no real answer...some say Misato, others say it was a security gaurd and others still say it is that woman with the cats whom he meets in suspicious circumstances.

As for my opinion..........I have no asnwer except that Anno said it wasn't Misato, so it wasn't Misato!!!!

I also know it wasn't Misato. I found most of the answers in the other threads but couldn't really understand the reasons behind why he was killed?
Was it the Fuyutski kidnapping, the information he stole and sent to Misato or was it something else?

Kaji was a double agent working both for NERV and another organization (I think either SEELE or the Government).

I believe he was killed because he had outlived his usefulness. He knew he was going to die because he was in the phone booth looking at his assignment card..'my last assignent. It's red, red like blood' (He may of called Misato's answering machine from the booth..

Also, when he release Fuyutski, he was told that his actions would most likely result in his death...and he replied with something about the pursuit of truth..

Kaji's death will ALWAYS remain a mystery, unless Anno decides to end it...which he wont

This is just my hope, but when I first saw it, I thought that Kaji was a real quick draw, and took his gun and shot his executor and then just disappeared for the rest of the series.

Rewatching the series really disabused me of that theory though. :( Still, even though it has absolutely no evidence, its a nice optimist theory. :)

Here's my opinion with some facts thrown in

Kaji was a double agent that worked for NERV/SEELE and the Japanese Intelligence. I think he may have become more involved with working for SEELE against NERV. Seele knew he was a double agent and so did Gendou. I recall once that a seele member commented on Kaji's lack of duty,
'we put a bell around the cat's neck but the bell did not ring' was talking about how Kaji was the bell and Gendou the cat...Kaji was supposed to watch Gendou but instead i think he sided with Gendou in the pursuit of truth and rightfulness....

I reckon he was shot by a SEElE member...poor kaji....he was soooo cool....

There's a new theory out there...I may have mentioned it on this board...

Someone enhanced a scene from the movie (the bit where one of the soldiers invading NERV shots a technician then shot him again as he lay on the ground) and claims the man has a pony tail. This, he claims, is undeniable proof that Kaji is alive and killing NERV personnel.............
