Will there be Furuba 2? I know the ending of the series was weak (that's how i can describe it).

It was rumored, but I don't think there'll be a second season.
I'd be thrilled to death if one was made, though. *pokes Daichi*

That would be very nice.

It's hard to say. I've heard rumors in both directions, so I really can't say whether there will or not. However, something in me doubts that the studio is going to drop something that's this popular. Also, there isn't exactly a shortage of material for them to work with.
Personally, I think they've left it open so they can do something more, whether that will be a second TV season, a movie, or an OVA I don't know. I guess all we can do is wait and see, ne?

But according to the new AnimeDaisuki (www.animedaisuki.net) , a 2nd series of Furuba, rumoured to be happening! I'm not sure if this is just wishful thinking of some of the fans or actual fact.

Would the 2nd season of fruits basket be based on the manga?
btw i've only gone up to volume 4 of the manga.
Just wondering if the manga is still continuing? I heard it was very popular in its time...
And where in the manga does the ending of the series correspond to?

Yep, it's still going strong.

I'm probably mistaken here, but I -think- it's around volume six. Volume ten was released fairly recently, so there's plenty of material for a second season.
So far the manga is up to vol 10 as far as I know.
(I got all 10 volumes in japanese despite not being able to read japanese at all.oooh pretty pictures ;) ) Funny, how I was never into bishies until I saw Yuki, then Kyo ;)
The end of volume 10 on the last page made me yell in agony, the way she ended it.Got a friend to translate the last page and she said it was.... and I was like ahhhh!!! Tho my friend said 'it' neccesary didn't mean it 'that' way.(Ok,I know I don't make sense to anyone who hasn't read it)
Gotta get next volume.
Someone told me the next volume was delayed cos the author hurt her hand or something.buggar.oh well gotta wait.
I watched the series, got hooked and bought the books. Was quite surprised how different the order of scenes was to the series.
Furuba 2!? Yeah! here's hoping
:)

I really think there may be a second season once the manga gets further along. But then again, this may be the Furuba addict in me trying to deny the cruelty of not having a second season. *coughs*
The problem was basically that, the anime was started while the manga was still somewhat new. It was too popular and fans were screaming for someone's blood unless they got their FB anime. ^^;

Maybe they're doing a Hellsing; supposedly, Hellsing is waiting on the conclusion of the manga for a second season. That's probably just a rumor, but you never know I guess. I'd certainly be willing to wait until the FB manga is over for more anime.

I've heard rumors on another forum that a second season is going in production. Of course I don't know how reliable the source it. I would be ecstatic if it were true.

Wait, so as of now, is the Fruits Basket manga still going?

Yep, volume 10 was released a few months ago and the manga shows no signs of concluding anytime soon.

Actually, volume 11 is now out, and I will (eventually) have all of them. I'm currently in manga debt to my roommates; their mom picked up all the manga I had on my list instead of just the four volumes I paid for....

I'd want to see how they pull off Furuba 2 because based on the manga, the anime shigure was completely out of character, it's infuriating! Contrary to the anime, the shigure manga is actually pretty sneaky and shares a "relationship" with akito which explains a lot of the "visits."
Yes, they ARE a pair, but it's a relationship that exists because they both need each other and are kind of trying to get rid of each other at the same time. I hope I didn't spoil anything.

Hiro is on the cover of volume 11.
As for a second season of the anime....the director isn't sure. He said that if he was approached he might do it, but that he's afraid that a second season wouldn't have the energy of the first season. Apparently it took a lot out of the production crew.
Yay for Japanese extras included on the American release DVDs!

It wouldn't have the same energy? Well, I wonder if with their current break and more of the manga out, they'd "recharge" by now. (*crosses fingers* PLEEEAASEEEE!!!)

If there is a second season, there are a few things you're gonna wonder about.
- Are they going to bring back the boy with the red hat story line?
- How are they going to cast Shigure since he 'seems' like the bigger bad guy?
- Are they going to introduce "Mayu-chan"? She's a small character in the manga who slowly emerged right into the spotlight and becomes a lot more important especially after Volume 10 or are they going to ignore and do away with her IF there is a furuba season 2.
The manga is growing darker that it would be hard to try and translate that to a 2nd season that would have to keep that innocent, feel good attitude that the first season started out with. They might do a hack job of Tooru solving the mystery and freeing Kyo or something like that. I get the feeling that after seeing the manga, it might no be a good idea to see a 2nd season. I'd see it anyway but I have a bad feeling about where and how the story will go.

Hmmm, I do wonder what Fruits Baskets would be like with all angst and no feel-good cheerfulnes. It would definitely be a different Furuba then we anime-only fans know and love, but I have faith in the crew's abilities to translate the tone. At least, I hope.
I like angsty stuff though, almost more than the comedy.
It would be interesting to see Shigure gradually change into a more "evil" character. I always think its truly interesting when chracters grow (not necessarily for the better) for plausible reasons. However, many anime conversions do fail at this transformation, notably X TV series. X could be a good comparison, since it has the similar angst features and several characters. Would Furuba 2 turn out like a bad X TV? Who knows...

I'm not too sure if I want a second series.
A second season always has the danger of not retaining the same spark that made the first series work - so asking for something like it is always a big risk. Indeed the possibility of taking a darker direction is unnerving for me and may prove fatal for FB's legions of fans.
Besides, I have nothing against open endings. I kinda like the fact that they are always open for interpretation (unlike End of Eva which was just utter nihilism  )
