Well, it was one of the (if not, THE 1st) series to really put anime in the spotlight. The animation and dialogue may be crude to modern anime, but Star Blazers (or better yet, Space Battleship Yamato) really broke the mold, especially in the sci-fi genre.
I remember when I would come home, and all I could think about was watching the series. I loved it that much. I suppose I still do.

Totally agree with you. Though I think the problem is that few people on the boards can remember an anime that was popularized in the mid-80's other than Robotech.
But, yeah I totally loved the series. Especially the space marines. Don't ask why, I guess I always liked their head first brain last antics.
Well the flare pants were pretty hip.
i was watching this not too long ago and the dialouge was terrible :)
I still dont understand how in the first few eps they are battling outside of pluto and then retreat back to earth ect... but then they talk about how it takes 6 months to get to mars but the new technology will let them 'jump' that in seconds.
Yeah for for it is a toss up between Ulysses 31 and Starblazers for the mid 80's champion, the the former may have come a fair while later..
No No the robot was adorable.
I wish i had Space Battleship Yamato in japanese and not english, you can forgive inconsistant dialouge when it isnt in your native language.
(i am really puzzled as to why a forum was made for this though, i can not for the life of me recall a single thread on this of merit??? oh well things work in strange ways)

If anyone has been watching Ebay, the last month or so has seen a whole truckload of Space Battleship Yamato DVDs being advertised. Parts 1 and 2 (eps 1-26 and 27-52) are common, with parts 3 and 4 occasionally appearing as well. I don't think anyone will dispute that they are HK DVDs, but has anyone tried them? Are they any good? There doesn't seem to be any other way to get Uchusenkan Yamato on DVD at all.
I'm sure those flares were very trendy at the time, but boy they looked dated now!

Nova was the first anime babe
Since this series came out before most of this board was born, I expect it to be a slow forum. The last installment "Final Yamato" came out in 1982 I believe.
I love this anime!

Hey, someone agrees with me.
Those English lyrics were a scream!
We're heading into space, we're leaving Mother Earth......
....If we don't in just one year, Mother Earth will disappear.....
...when we arrive, the Earth will survive......
:lol::lol::lol:
BTW, Does anyone reading this ACTUALLY know the words in full????

SVFA41 had this to say:
I love this anime!
KANPAI!!
And Spike, here's the Quest For Iscandar theme:
We're off to outer space,
We're leaving Mother Earth
To save the human race...
Our Star Blazers
Searching for a distant star, Heading off to Iscandar.
Leaving all we love behind, Who knows what dangers we'll find?
We must be strong and brave, our Home, we've got to save.
If we don't in just one year, Mother Earth will disappear.
Fighting with the Gamilons, We won't stop until we've won.
Then we'll return and when we arrive, The Earth will survive with our Star Blazers.
End Theme:
We're off in outer space,
Protecting Mother Earth
To save the human race...
Our Star Blazers
Danger lurking everywhere, But we know we've got to dare.
Evil men with evil schemes, They can't destroy all our dreams.
We must be strong and brave, our Home, we've got to save.
We must make the fighting cease, So Mother Earth will be at peace.
Through all the fire and the smoke, We will never give up Hope.
If we can win, the Earth will survive. We'll keep Peace alive with our Star Blazers.
The Comet Empire and The Bolar Wars theme:
We're off in outer space,
Protecting Mother Earth
To save the human race...
Our Star Blazers
A cry for help, a distant plight, Makes the Star Force reunite.
As we rush to meet our fate, The Comet Empire awaits.
We must be strong and brave, To stop its evil ways.
If Zordar's plot should work, He'll destroy the universe.
We'll fight the Comet Empire, Battle through the raging fire.
Filled with the hope that Earth will survive. We'll keep Peace alive with our Star Blazers.
Can you tell I have no life?:D

No problem.
It's a shame they didn't write new kyrics for The Bolar Wars, though. The series didn't have the same feel as the 1st two. The story seemed to be the only thing making the Bolar saga fit the overall show:(

I saw the first tv series last month..I really liked it. It grew on me. The dub wasn't very good and the editing was annoying..but it was still good. I can't wait to watch the second series which I heard is the best.
