Well the unforunate side effect of not having a wide variety of anime rentals nor any anime clubs in your area does come into play here… Anime series I want to see… But don't have the budget to buy… (Also what am I gonna do if I don't like it?) Their was an article in Animerica this month, but the postal service is so damn slow, I havn't seen it yet… So I would like to know what this is about? I remeber seeing a girl toting a Sub Machine gun Circa 1940s somewhere... :confused2
So I was wondering what the main storyline is and your rating in the following catagories… A (1 thru 10) scoreing list…
Storyline:
Animation style:
Characters (How life like are their personalities?):
Emotions (How much does it pull you into the story?):
Fan Service:

Storyline: One guy leads a bunch of hot girls into battles with chunky, steam-ish powered robots to fight demons & ancient evil spirits. Oh yeah, the year is close to 100 years ago.
Animation style: 7, its good, but not the absolute best ever.
Characters: 8, all the characters in the show/game/manga/whatever have good personalities and don't feel dull in any way.
Emotion: 7, it pulled me in pretty good, both games and the anime itself. (didnt watch much of the tv series though) I suggest you play the games first though.
Fan service: 3, very little, but there was a few times I saw some... *scratches head* um.. lessee..
I havent watched much SW/ST in a long time...
Re: Sakura Wars
So I was wondering what the main storyline is and your rating in the following catagories… A (1 thru 10) scoreing list…
Storyline: 9 -- While I personally rate the continuing Sakura storyline a [9] given my appreciation for many aspects of the series, others might note that the sparse action (in relation to several other anime series mind you, as it may be this series holds more than enough for you), amidst a rising Demon War, may detract from an overall score and rate it accordingly. I wasn't one of them given the sheer amount of interesting and memorable material that we got in addition to the action scenes we saw. In other words, in juggling the characterization, character moments, plots and revelations I was pretty happy with the execution they decided on for the OVA's, TV series, etc. The basic plot revolves around a young woman named Sakura who joins the Flower Division (combat group) in defense of the Imperial Capital by foreign attackers, mostly of the demon kind. The plots develop around the cities defense, how it's defended, and the interaction between Sakura, and each of the Flower Division characters as they take up the responsibility (some work well together, some don't for example).
Animation style: 9 -- This category is just as subjective as the first, but I'm mighty impressed with the animation style. The setting, itself, allows for all kinds of visuals from city life, to Japanese countryside, to it's rural communities and in-between. The characters themselves are very well designed (though I'd reckon that Maria get's hot wearing that coat indoors as often!) and you can tell right off the bat that a whole lot of energy, detail, and attention was put into almost every aspect of the animation. Check out some of the model sheets and linear notes available in the DVD offereings for a few additional examples of what I'm getting at.
Characters (How life like are their personalities?): 9 -- Let me preface this point by saying that normally I wouldn't seek out an anime that prominently featured a little French blonde-girl, with big eyes, a teddy bear, and a huge bow in her hair -- but it didn't take long at all for even this character (Iris) to grow on me. If that can happen, then it says something about the characterization that went into the series (and continues to go into the series). While Sakura, Maria, and Sumire quickly became my favorites, all of them have something worthwhile to offer when they get the air-time and I can't think of a character that stinks up the place, at all -- which is also a rarity. It doesn't hurt that the characters were originally designed by Kousuke (Ah! My Goddess) Fujishima, either.
Emotions (How much does it pull you into the story?): 9, easy. Again, this anime probably wouldn't be marketed to a male over the age of 25, first, which is what I am. Yet, it was able to quickly do what so many others have tried and failed to do, and that's pull me right in. Had it not, I definitely wouldn't be attempting this humble review.
Fan Service: Not much at all. I'll allow you to rate that as you will.
Can't reccommend the series enough, though it may not be the anime for everyone, just as a series like 'Crest/Banner of the Stars' isn't for everybody, but able to reward those that give it a shot. The massive popularity of Sakura Wars (Sakura Taisen) in Japan is for good reason in this case.
Hope that helps.
Since he asked two and a half years ago, I suspect he has seen it by now

I agree with Schizm. I would rate the overall of Sakura Wars/Taisen 8/10. But I've only seen about 5 episodes of it. I plan on seeing the new sakura wars that is going to release somewhere next month.
