So I've seen this series mentioned on other threads and I was sort of wondering what it was all about? Also is it only available in manga or is it on dvd as well?

On a deeper level there are social comments about the use of robots as slaves, and about the effect of 'perfect' partners on civilisation. Look beyond the 'cute robot girlfriend' theme for a warning about modern society.
