1 through to 26

Now Akira Experiment number 25 and 26 were. Kiyoko and Takashi. And you would guess that Masaru would be either 23 or 24. So my question is, what happened to the other 23 experiments that we never hear a thing about?

In the manga, it was said that experiments 1-24 (masaru was 27 and Akira was 28 I believe) were failures in that they either died or went in sane with the excpetion of number 19 who had set herself up as a sort of prophet. By the time Tetsuo came along in the manga, they were up to number 40 and Tetsuo became #41.
