It's definately worthwhile, collecting this series, that is (well, from the first 28 episodes and OAV series I've seen).
And what it's about. . .I guess I'll leave that to someone else. I'm bad with descriptions like that. (either not helpful, or too long).

[blink] Ooo, toughie. On the description, that is. It's definately worthwhile to get it. It's by far one of my favorites.

It's about a samurai named Himaru (?) Kenshin. The OAV is about how he earned his legendary nickname, Battousai. The tv series is about his adventures when he is living at a dojo.

I guess that's a good summary.

i say you should get it. its a combo of serious stuff and comedy sometimes. well in the begining theres a lot of comedy but later on it kinda gets a little less, and more serious. i have almost the whole series and i also have the ova series too. the ova series i say was pretty cool

u wanna collect the Kenshin series?! hmmm... (rich kid) - do u know that there are around 98 volumes (take note VOLUMES) with 2 eps/vol? but if you have the money to spare, its a good collection - story has good variety

description? its about the adventures of a samurai named Kenshin Himura aka Battousai who is trying to atone for the sins he committed when he was still an assassin during the Tokugawa era - he has sworn never to kill again hence his use of the Sakaba (reversed-edge sword) and desperately tries to fight his inner demons - the greatest is his Hitoriki (killer/slasher persona) side. however, numerous villians appear with intentions of toppling the new Meiji govt. Kenshin is called upon by this govt. to put a stop to these aggressors since he is the only one capable of stopping them. Because of his love for a woman and the people he loves, he decides to face both his inner demons and his opponents and always wins in the end - or does he?

Er...not quite right with the number of eps there.
95 eps, currently being released by MediaBlasters at I think 2 eps per volume (US$17 per dvd if you preorder). Not sure if the first one is out yet or not.
OAV is licensed by ADV, one ep per volume.
Anyway, if you don't mind paying the money the series is worth it, it's one of the better ones out there. Up to about ep 61, at any rate.

its 98 volumes - just got back from the video shop and they have 98 volumes. :D

Er...since I own the whole series, I can absolutely tell you there are not 95 volumes, unless your video store has put one episode per tape volume, which would be a bit of a rip. What they would have is the fansub version anyway, which should have 4 eps per tape...works out to a bit over 20 tapes.

nope, 2 eps/vol transferred from VCD - just borrowed 5 tapes on RRK volumes 27-31 (Shishio saga ending).

Well, anyways ...

Trying to buy the entire series is like trying to buy all of Dragonball. Really difficult unless you happen to be a multimillionaire. My suggestion is to see if friends have it and will let you borrow it.

tekblade

actually i get my stuff from fansubs, and each tape for 6 bucks has 4 episodes.

Ko Hakaisha

Well, there's that, too ... [shrugs]

Yuusuke

Well. . .what else do you get instead of fansubs? If the series is yet to be commercially released/the commercial release is only dubbed and sucks? That'd probably be the best thing to get the series in, I believe.

Tamachan

Er...I supppose if you don't want to wait for the MediaBlasters/ADV release, then you buy the chinese commercial vcds and sub them yourself...at least that's what I'd do ^^;

if you're not reallu used to the story I suggest you watch the Sub version first coz the dub, though nice voices, takes away some key parts of the story

You also might wanna see the OAVs first. You DEFINATELY want to see them before the Revenge saga.

Rurouni Kenshin is one of the BEST series out there! It's full of action and comedy and the fight scene are great! I think both the anime and manga are cool, but I like the manga a little better. The OVA's are a definite must see! There's a mix of live action and animation that's subtle but outstanding all at once!
