Well after reading it all i can say is hot damn!! From what i understand its going to be a year long project. The first half of the year they will be completely redoing the orignal series. Kinda like what they did with akira making it for dvd the way it should be including adding Dolby 5.1 sound. As for the second half of the year well from what i read prepare Yourself for something NEW!!!!! Bout damn time its only been 10 years right? Owe damn this means im gonna have to sell all my EVA dvd's agian to get the remastered version when it comes out.

Hold on, Schizm's got a point there: Do you think anyone would care about this Eva revival?

Don't get me wrong, Eva is a great series but this prject has flaws:
- you can't really make a sequel out of post -global obliteration. (Unless of course you read the right fanfic)
- I seriously doubt that Mr. Anno would come back to Anime. He's moved onto Live action features.
- Likewise, many of Eva's devoted viewers (myself included) have also moved elsewhere (mostly to Rahxephon. I myself have moved onto Gasaraki :thumbup: )

Um accually Know what your talking about before you say it Anno is heading up this project. According to Newtype and ADV. ANd while they probbly might not be able to continue the EVA series im sure there is the possibility of a Prequel. I mean it would be cool to see the events of second impact more in depth.

Yes they are rereleasing the series completely remastered. In fact the remasterd edition will hit the shelves in japan in the end of June. But gainix said that this is going to be a year long project. And if they got Anno involved there is quite the possibility that they may animate more.

Dammit. How long did I wait for the DVD boxset to come out? How much did I pay for it?

And NOW they're going to go back and fix the single most annoying thing with the series...the f*cking video quality, with it's unbelievably irritating shiftiness and jumpiness? It's like some jackass bumped into the animation table every other scene the way some of the "talking head" animation looks. The cells hop around far too noticeably far too often.

And I absolutely do not want new NGE to be made. To do so (cannonically) would require some drop-dead utterly amazing storytelling. I don't see it happening. The end has occured, the middle has nothing left to offer, and everything in the past has either been sufficiently explained or wouldn't add anything worthwhile if it were. I love the anime, but I think it's complete as it is and anything added to it is too likely to be either a letdown, a weak stab at old glory, or incompatible with the rest of the series and the movies.

It is possible to do it right, though I have no idea what the plot would be. Does anyone? How would it work?

I agree with Drizzten. There's really nothing more to add. There's little point in working from a pre-SI context. That's already been well and truly established.

Mind you, here's hoping they include the infamous 'Directors cut' portions this time
But if Anno does new footage, hopefully he'll include some scenes which explain some of the answers to the questions that didn't answered first time around.

Seems like Gainax needs some new cash, wonder how Evangelion will do in the ratings compared to ongoing shows like Gundam SEED and new ones like Ninja Scroll TV and Read Or Dream.

Unless this Evangelion 'Renewal' thing gets a release outside of Japan.., is it really worth getting excited by it all...? According to most websites I've seen, the Japanese R2 DVD's will not have subtitles.., so are ADV, or some other western company gonna buy the rights to this re-mastered version of Evangelion...?

I heard some comments about a guy who read the newtype magazine on that eva part and said that Gainax was doing a new animation about the games GOS II (Shinjis dream world). New toys, new evangelion models (the metal EVAs are ... tasty. From HLJ), new PS2 game (saw the ad for it on the back of Newtype March 2003 Japanese versio), new game (not sure, but the characters look weird), and yeah just remaking the video to add better video quality (cos we all know during the original, the budget was tight). After seeing the comparison trailer and the redone episode 1 in the Newtype DVD (Japanese March 2003 again), I say, yes, the quality has improved, the colours don't look so washed out, there are little colour details that you can actually see now, etc.

But...worth it?!

After the R1 and R4 DVDs have been released, they do a full remastering of the original??! Am I lucky to have NOT gotten the DVDs yet? Are they going to release DVDs of the renewed Evangelion?

Yes, it is good that they are remastering Evangelion and the metal models, but I really think this is a lousy marketing ploy and they are, in effect, flogging a dead horse.

Now that thats out of my system it all depends on what they do, hopefully it won't be like star wars special edition where greedo shoots first. In other words they etter not screw up the plot and turn the shiji we all know and tolerate into a knockoff of the gundam pilots (No offense ment to the gundam pilots) but just so long as they don't try to fix what aint broke. But for the love of J random deiety they could at least explain how they got unit one back into the cage after the little incident in episode sixteen though my theroy is still that they sang yui a lullaby
