I just picked up volume 4 today,

Anyway I started watching and well Excel sounded less "enegetic" in these 4 episodes. Sounded like she had a new VA or maybe the existing VA wasnt having a good day when they were recording.

Does anybody else think she sounds different or is it just me?

Are we talking English VA hear? I heard that the English VA for Excel just couldn't keep up and quit.....All that fast gibbering took its toll. I haven't had time to check the credits for myself.

She quit alright. I was so thrown off by that, thought she was fired, then Sesshoumaru told me she quit. Blast her!

Well if that's true then that sucks because I really thought that she was doing a Great Job. To keep up with that sort of pace and still to remain clear was quite amazing. So what's the new one like? Does she sound roughly the same? Does she keep up the pace? Well if the new one is half as good as the old one then I'll be happy. I guess I’ll pick up a copy this week and see for myself.

I wouldn't know. I watched 2 minutes of episode 1 dubbed and will never watch the English version of Excel again.............

Well be patient wolfpac I'll bring myself to watch the dub eventually so I can do a full review of the disc but maybe not for a few days. I'm really in no rush to rewatch volume four. Definately the weakest so far by a wide margin.

She didn't just quit guys, Jessica Calvello actually damaged her voice trying to perform the role of Excel. I haven't seen Vol. 4 yet so I don't know what the new English Excel sounds like......hope she's good!

*and by the way I'm not dead in case anyone was wondering!*

Eek! I guess all that fast talking took its toll.

RE: Wolfpac

The new VA for Excel, doesnt too as lively and energetic but after two episode or so (well for me) you get use to it and its like nothing really has changed

Your right orochi X. The new voice actor really grows on you by the 3rd episode in. And in anything, she is easier to understand. I still think I like the original better, but the replacement isn’t bad either.Originally posted by MrBS
Definately the weakest so far by a wide margin. Now I disagree. Fair enough the first two bomb episodes weren't that good, but the last two were some of the funniest of the series. The Lesbian Robots and the Japanime episodes were really funny. A lot of those times I had to pause it to stop myself from laughing.

I really enjoyed Volume 4, because the first 2 episodes revolved mostly around Watanabe and co (and those are my favorite episodes) and as Wolfpac said the lesbian robot and japanime episodes are a laugh.

IMO i think volume 3 was the weakest

The japanime episode was good but I was tired of the robots after the first episode.

As for VA not as good as the original Jessica treatment but adequate - for those who need a benchmark - its not nearly as bad as the Ranma dub change!

Speaking of dub, it was great to hear Spike Spencer doing the voice of a character (Shioji) without sounding exactly like a certain 14yr pilot.

I love Watanabe and the rest too, makes me anticipate the volume five dojin episode very eagerly!

This quote is directly from Jessica Cavello's mailing list:

Hello everyone! Welcome to this update. Some things as of late have prevented me from writing to you as much as I had wanted, but once I explain things, you will understand why.

Basically, when I accepted the role of Excel back in October, I was told that I would receive much vocal rest in between volumes. This was both necessary for me, as I would need time to vocally heal after completing a volume, and for ADV, so they would have me back in top
shape for more demanding vocal work and there would be no concerns of me not being in perfect, healthy vocal shape. However, due to the demands of outside entities, ADV accelerated the recording process so that the production would be completed in a more timely fashion. I agreed to this recording schedule - wanting the best for the series and wanting deadlines to be met. However, the strain of the accelerated recording process affected my cords drastically, and during the recording of Volume 4, I damaged my instrument. My doctor said that my cords would heal in time and that there is not permanent damage. Obviously, with the panicked idea that I had really hurt myself, I was very relieved to hear this. With this recent cord damage though, it was now imperative that I received the
original time off in between volumes, as was originally spoken of. However, ADV would not be able to grant the time off in it's entirety. Seeing that this could possibly give me permanent damage, and because
they could not delay such time off, a decision to recast the role of Excel for Volumes 4, 5, and 6 was made. While I wish that ADV had kept the original recording schedule which provided me with the necessary vocal rest in between volumes, I understand that the popularity of the series created this need for faster movement.

I had truly wanted to complete the series all the way through, and I had every intention of doing so, but I cannot risk permanent damage to my voice. Understand that this decision was made for the better of my vocal
well being, and for the better of the series, so please refrain from emailing ADV any harsh or otherwise negative emails or comments if you feel compelled to do so. I wish nothing but the best for Excel Saga (the
crazy, beloved chic AND the series and I wish whomever is to be recast the best of luck on the vocally demanding role! My cords go out to ya...

Gambatte! I also wish ADV luck in getting Excel out quicker so the fans can enjoy it.

I hold nothing back in saying that I am very proud of my work in the first 3 volumes of the series and I hope that you will all be pleased with it also! I have never worked harder in a recording booth in my life, and there is something to be said for that. And while I am deeply affected by the recent turn of events, I know this was the right thing to do both for myself and for the series. You should know that, too.
