Now for a ground unit, the TA's are virtually unstoppable. They have advantage over any and all ground units including people, mortar fire and tanks. The only ground unit that might be able to take out a TA would be a Jeep with a Gun. A bit like those Warthogs from Halo. They have the speed to outrun a TA. But Even so, a TA would still most likely win. But just how good are the TA's against air units. I think that they would get slaughtered. Yes Yushiro managed to shoot down that Rapture, but the Rapture had 2 disadvantages.
(i). Yushiro isn't a Pilot. He's a Kai.
(ii). The Raptor was piloted by a Mad man
Do you see the pilot; it looked like he was trying to ram the TA instead of fight. What was he using? A Machine Gun only? The Air Strike should have been by a missile and from a distance that Yushiro couldn't hit him from. Anyway all of this rambling will now form questions.
1. How effective would a TA be against an Airplane?
2. How much protection would a TA have against a missile?
3. When the U.S got wiped out by the TA's in Belgistan, why didn't they try an Air Strike against them?

Its been a while since ive seen the series but ill post what i can remember:
i. Yushiro is a civilian but also the suits were designed around him. Call him the prototype. He was the best qualified to pilot the TAs that why they allowed him to do it as a civilian.
ii. They are going mad because of the stim packs (i forgot what they call it in the series) you can only take so much of the stress of piloting it before you go insane. Yushiro didnt need it, he would just go into his trance type deal, thats why he was the best pilot, and his only equal was the female pilot.
1. TAs arent made to attack airplanes, they are Urban Combat vehicals. They were created for specific terrain that tanks couldnt handle. If you want these badboys to fight in the forests and cities you got a awesome vehical. Im sure they could down a airplane with the right missiles loaded onto them.
2. Im pretty sure a TA would be destroyed by a direct missile attack. The only advantage TAs really have is a slightly more developed outer skin which can handle a bit more damage, but its real advantage is its speed. Notice how when they were attacking the tanks they could dodge the blasts.
3. The US probably didnt have time to mount a counter-attack, the TAs move fast, and they are easily transportable. Odds are the forces attacked didnt know what was going on, they were hit hard and fast and if they got off any communication to their HQ, it was jarbled, etc.

1) A TA vs an aircraft.... Not much better than a Trooper with a stinger is really... Unless its a Raden with the Gauss...
2) Depends... The armour is quite thought but that no longer really enters the equation any more. THe problem would be hitting it with the missiles. Its not an easy thing to do. But a good hit will put a TA out of action.
3) Cause they are hard to locate and were proably being moved around alot. For all their 'smart' warheads i doubt that they have things more acurate then the tank guns that fail to hit them. Not to mention the small target anyway

Teaching Assistant!
OMG! All the pieces of the puzzle suddenly fit! The nature of the TAs, the Kais, and Gasaraki is all revealed! The Nada has arrived!
Heh...
Well i guess it did teach the Americans who had the best mecha in the world after all...
Even if they were really aliens in powerarmour controled by constructs...
They did pull an arial attack on Kaha. After getting their ground forces wiped out, they said they increased their air raids.
TAs would not fare to well against a plane, but that's not what they are designed for, any more than a tank is. They are ground combat. In cities, air raids against one unit would be innefective; in wider areas, I'd imagine a TAs maneuverability would allow them to pose difficulty to air attacks.
