Well, I've finally finshed Gasaraki!
But, I kinda felt the ending was somewhat awkward: Exactly what the hell was the Gasaraki anyway? Why was everyone after it? And as Yoshiro and Miharu were Kai's, did that make them immortal?
Still, at least it had a better ending then <a certain Gainax anime> did - I'm still trying hard to forget that Eo<a certain Gainax anime> was ever made.....

It seems absurd that when a mecha series comes it, it will inevitably draw comparisons to <a certain Gainax anime>. Indeed someone can easily accuse Gasaraki of replicating <a certain Gainax anime>'s confused kids, military conspiracy, peculiar ending, mysterious girl protagonist and mecha combat being of a family affair. But then again, such a thing could be said for anything.
Such accusations are easy to make but such are made by idiots who are unwilling to give it a chance and whom are put off by the heavily detailed plot. I myself, strongly believe that Gasaraki has the strength to stand on it's on two feet, bloodied but not bowed. If anything, Gasaraki is a series that rewards repeating viewing (unlike <a certain Gainax anime> which has so many hidden details and false leads that it just becomes incoherent) and certainly has me intrigued. So I champion Gasaraki for bravely being deadly serious and militaristically thoughtful. If Gasaraki was trying to correct the flaws of <a certain Gainax anime> then it has done so marvellously - so much so to the point that it actually surpasses it's peer.

Mind you, as an observation, it's kinda funny: Gasaraki seems to have replicated <a certain Gainax anime - No, not Wings of Honneamise>'s the love-it-or-hate-it attitude from fans. Yet while there are people turn up their nose at Gasaraki, the series still has it's fans who are loyal to it. There does exist a Gasaraki section at fanfiction.net (http://www.fanfiction.net/list.php?categoryid=1412) but that is already active. Yet the people who post reviews (one in particular ;)) are all confessing their love for the series and commending the two authors for soldiering on.

BTW, who out there thought Miharu looked better with longer hair (flashback eps)? :goof:

Ah yes, the end of that <certain Gainax anime>. After seeing that my cousin has tried to permanently eradicate that <certain Gainax anime> from his mind. I found it amusing myself...

Anyhow I agree that Gasaraki is definitely worth more viewings, I'm currently going through it again, and I figured out a lot of things that I had missed before.

BTW, I think Miharu looked better with the shorter hair, not that the long hair was bad at all, quite the opposite.
