Has anyone else noticed the allusions and references to 'The Catcher in the Rye' have been popping up in GitS:SAC over and over again?
The few I can think of off the top of my head:
- The 'logo' of the Laughing Man has a quote from the book: "So what I thought I'd do was, I'd pretend to be one of those deaf-mutes."
- In Episode 12, the girl mentions the story "The Secret Goldfish", which came from "Catcher".
-Possibly the most complete one is at the end of Episode 11. The camera shows a left-handed baseball mitt, with the following phrase written in green ink, in prose form: "You know what I'd do/ I mean, if I had my goddamn choice?/ I'd just be a catcher in the rye and all."
This is insane, because in "Catcher", Holden's younger brother, Allie had a left-handed fielder's mitt, which he used to write poetry on in green ink!
Has anyone noticed other references and allusions to "Catcher"? And more importantly, why are they using these references?
