I personally like Akito. I despise him for what he does to the jyuunishi but to understand just exactly what situation he's stuck in explains a lot. He's not handeling his tragedy gracefully, which isn't an admirable thing... but well, maybe I like him out of pity. Thoughts? comments? Flame akito? He's just a misunderstood guy. ;_;

Hmmm, I don't know I can't say I like him. There are lots of people who have horrible lives, like say Tohru and Momiji, but they do not act like Akito. Then again, I do not know his full story so I can't totally condemn him.

The anime Akito made him mysterious and there wasn't enough info to say just how heavy the curse he bears is but just understand, from birth, he has been told over and over again that he was born to die. Someone from that position might either grow up being optimistic and living life to the fullest or perhaps go downhill the way Akito went. He might even be hurting the other Jyuunishis to share his pain. Akito needs a hug. ;_;

I dislike Akito. What did he turn into anyway? I must not have paid too much attention to him.

I don't like someone who is cruel to others.

Well, that sucks...

I feel sorry for him, and his character intrigues me. As the head of a household bearing a curse, he supposedly should have the heaviest burden, which probably explains his attitude. But I really don't know enough about him to understand his position, and I haven't seen enough of him to like him per se.

Let's just say that I want to like him.

Okay, after seeing all of FB (finally!), I'm going to upgrade my "want to like him" to "like him".

Sure, he's cruel, vindictive, and evil... and sure, he acts kind of like a spoiled child... but it's understandable. I don't know how I would act to be told since birth that I born to die, but I think it'd probably be something like how Akito acts. Looking at the rest of the Sohma kodiac characters... their curse isn't really too bad in comparison. They get hugged and turn into cute fuzzy little animals. A curse, yes, but not as bad as being told that you were born to die because you've received the brunt of the curse.

No wonder he acts cruel towards the rest of the family. If I were in his situation, I'd be wondering why the rest of the kodiac is able to live as a result of the curse on myself. I'd probably be bitter and angry too, to be told without any choice in the matter that my whole purpose in life is to die.

I guess I like him mainly out of pity, and there are only a few glimpses of him in the anime... but his character still interests me. Maybe I just have a thing for evil characters. :D

Yes I saw the last episode too and I could no longer hate him. Watching the last episode gave me a solid reason to like him. I can't help but to feel sorry for him. Even though he was like a villian in Fruba..

Nope. Dislike him. I dont care for what he was told or whatever. Kyo also had a hard time but he at least fights for a better way.. or acts in a proper manner. Akito simply disregards it all and slumps into a self pity which is anything but likeable. His soul is corrupt and it's plain to see when he grabs Tohru by the hair. Such a person has forgotten warmth if they ever even knew it, and I'd not waste time sparing pity for such a person. Regardless of root causes, the end product is one I do not like.

I'm soooo hoping you've read the furuba manga Pengi because there's SOOOO much I want to argue about with you about Akito. >< did you read it? did you? so i can start babbling about manga related stuff because the anime akito doesn't COMPARE to the manga version.

I do not like nor hate Akito. I do feel somewhat sorry for him but not enough to hate or like him. I've not read the manga. I finished the anime not that long ago and I was hoping they might make more; but from what they said it doesn't sound like they are going to or want to. At least the japanese director didn't seem to want to do it.

I would give Akito a hug....just so i can slip a dagger into him :lol::evil:

Sorry, but i don't find any redeeming qualities in him at all. The fact that he has a limited lifespan is more a case of: "Seeya! Don't let the door hit you on the arse on the way out!"

My initial responce to Akito was " Oh! Tortured bishounen! Roar." I put up with him until fairly well, and often defended him when my sister badmouthed him. But, when he hit Kisa, I was instantly hissing at him like a cat. She is nothing but a sweet little girl looking for a friend! How could you be mean to that sweetheart?

He's so possesive of all the boys of the Juunishi, but doesn't seem to care about the girls.

All things considered, as long as he doesn't do anything to Shigure, I can forgive him.;) You hurt my puppy, and I'll be one unhappy girl.

first thoughts of him... yeah he is a real jerk, someone who i would enjoy DISLIKING. but seeing the last epi, it explains why.

his curse if for him to be born to die, and when he dies, what happens.. :?: i hope they make another season, its just doens't feel complete.

I do hate Akito,but not just because of his personnality,but rather what led to it.I understand he has a rough life,not only he knows about his own death,but he also knows that his existance main purpose is to lighten the curse for the other Juunishi.He's a forced martyr

And then,he is made the head of the Souma family,so he took the easiest way,get revenge on people around him.Even with a family to help him,a luxurious house,he still didn't have the strenght to stand up and live.And isn't that what Tohru is struggling to do from the very beginning?Knowing her future was also grim and possibly unpleasant she stood up and lived,not only that she helped others stand up.

Yet,Akito did not stand up,and for that I hate him

I like Akito, most likely because he's an interesting person. Sure, what he does to others is cruel but he has reasons for being the person he is. Without him, 'Fruits Basket,' wouldn't nearly be as good as it is. ^^

Can I say both? He's just one those characters you have to hate but finding him interesting at the same time.

at first, i totally hated him but after hearing you guys and how he was born to die...WOW. i would've gone crazy but...i would also try to make it known that it isn't anything personal, it's just that i am jealous of those who can live freer than i. yeah, it's bad to take things out on the ones that are closest to you but, they're the only ones who know what's going on with me and why.

Its hard to either like or hate him in both aspects. We've all seen him as a mysterious figure in the shadows until we have seen him in the near end. Sure, I can sympathise what he is going through but I also don't like him altogether when he acts, as alot of people have mentioned here already, spoilt to the core.

At this moment, my thoughts about Akito are pretty much up in the air. May have to go watch the serious again just for nostalgia sake.
