Saya's name

i've just bought a sword (nothing very good) and was doing some research to see what type it was and stuff and i noticed that 'Saya' is the Japanese word for scabbard... significant??

I don't recall any information from the movie regarding Saya's name and if it has any significance.

Perhaps someone more attuned with Japanese culture could help.

Of course, if you remember the sword she picked up after hers broke and how it could be described as "nothing very good"...;)
