It may seem strange that I am posting in this forum when I actually haven't seen .hack//sign itself :dodgy: But I guess that only proves the fact that I know what this series is and I'm indeed enthusiastic about it. I know the mechanics of the set up, I know the premise and I can fit names to characters. Plus, I'm a sucker for Fantasy RPG-type scenarios

However, my enthusiasm to get a hold of this series is tainted by the fact that a friend gave away the ending out of his frustration on how the series was concluded.
Now I know that .hack//sign is part of an immense marketing campaign but, from early impressions, it seems that the series has enough strength to stand on it's own two feet without any sort of marketing reliance.

What do the rest of you think? Should I go see .hack//sign? Did you think the ending was appalling?

And as a footnote, I did get my revenge on my friend: I scared him out of seeing Grave of the Fireflies by telling him how THAT ended.

i quite liked the ending, it wasn't so much an ending as a new beginning :)

this is definately spoiler material so skip the next about 30 lines if anyone is daft enough to enter a thread with spoiler in the title expecting anyhing else :p

I quite liked the way the "main" characters sort of sorted things out with themselves (especially Tsuarka and Subaru, that ending was great imo).
Although there was definately a case of "what next" with a some of the characters (the new beginnings i said about), some in "the world" and some in the "real world™"

Knowing the ending ahead of time will not spoil the series for you as much as the next anime.

*Spoilers Below*

Well you could really predict the ending yourself. The problem would be solved and the main character would return to the real world with a new start on life. If you are an action buff like me then I suggest you rent it, watch it on tv, or something else before buying into it. If you get it on CN then tape it. I here it is nearly unedited.

I've seen the entire series, play RPGs (online ones too), and liked .hack//SIGN O.K. It's a solid anime worth seeing once. My thoughts about it are mixed. As Dr0nak stated, having played online before with others will help you relate to it. I suppose playing the actual .hack games may help even more, but I think the whole idea is still there even though most of the anime centers around the main characters and make the world feel like the other characters are just NPCs because they are usually only background. It would have been neater if there was more interaction between the other players like joining teams, leading armies of players against the monsters, guilds, more player killers and player killer killers action etc. but again that could have happened had there been more action. The ending itself again, was acceptable, but not very creative.

Peace. V
