I picked up the first DVD a few days ago and am very happy with it. It's funny in the same goofy/sarcastic way my friends and I are around each other. I am very impressed with the English dub and the hoops they had to jump through to get it to make even minimal sense. In what is a first for me, I haven't listened to the Japanese sub yet and it's been over a week since I bought it.

The dub is exceptional indeed! As a dub supporter/defender, I guarantee it's class work! I also enjoy the sub, though only because it's chock full of seiyuu I know and love. Mostly I listen to the dub. ^^ Have you watched it with the ADV notes yet? I highly recommend it.

I too enjoyed the dub for Excel Saga, Ive only watched a few episodes subbed though you might want to know they changed the english VA for Excel in volume 4.
ADV vidnotes are good first time round but they tend to get annoying I recall at one stage the whole screen was full of them and you couldnt see the picture.
Sigh still need to pick up volume 5 but strapped for cash ;_;

I can't wait till next month when #6 comes out! As for the new VA, she doesn't sound too different, which is good news.

Yes for the sakes of the pause button on your remote, watch Excel in English not Japanese. Otherwise you will be pausing it every 30 seconds just to see what Excel is saying. And the same goes with the vidnotes. They actually are quite interesting but you find yourself pausing it too much. I tried them in one episode but I found that because I was pressing pause to much, the episode lost its funniness. I think I'll be reading them on my 2nd viewing.
And speaking of Vol. 6, does anyone know what ADV did with episode 26?
I had no problems with watching the sub......Though, I can read :rolleyes:

The best part about the sub is I recognize most seiyuu, excellent cast collaboration!
At the end of the day the sub is superior, but the dub is very good. AD Vid notes are compulsary and do require a lot of pausing! I save them for the second viewing which leads to a lot of 'so that what the &%# that meant' moments.
Excel broke me streak of only buying DVDs of anime I had already seen (you can only watch your friends get burned so many times) and I was kind of worried I purchased a WB cartoon from first impressions. By the end of the first DVD I knew I was going to get the whole series.

I've shown it to several friends and they all liked it more than they knew how to put into words. :lol:

I've watched just about all the sub now. It's hard to call it superior to the dub. I mean, some joke changes are just more amusing in english, same with some characters. People like Watanabe, Excel, Hyatt, Will-chan and Matsuya I can go sub or dub. Iwata is definitely more funny subbed. However Pedro, Nabeshin and Ilpalazzo have more comic value dubbed.

Same with most of my friends, majority of the absolutely loved it. Keyword is majority one of my friends found it somewhat terribly lame and boring, that I found hard to find :confused2
i got the first DVD monday (it was only released over here about a week ago) and was killing myself laughing at it.
There were bits where i couldn't stop laughing.
Is it just me or is Hyatt something akin to one of the 4 horsemen of the apocolypse? (Pestulance)
The dub was pretty good as well :)
