I highly doubt the name has anything to do with that movie. I cant even see any similarities, nor any particular humor dealing with the movie.

If you look carfully in the Fumoffu series, you can find parodies of the movie. Thats about as far as it goes, though.

Actually, the title of Full Metal Jacket is a phrase refers to a full magazine of bullets.
So the title of Full Metal Panic certainly encapsulates the sense of military action and insane comedy.

Haven't we already gone over this before?

Erm, not quite. Although I guess one could use the term "full metal jacket" to describe a full magazine of bullets, the real definition of the term is a TYPE of bullet, specifically a lead round fully covered by copper, steel, or other metal on the outside to give the round a higher degree of kinetic penetration (and thus is used to breech body armor), as a solid lead round tends to spread out completely like a mound of silly putty thrown at a wall. Of course, halfway between these is the jacketed hollow point round, which as the name suggests is only half jacketed to provide a large amount of penetrating damage over a wider area - and is almost always used against targets without body armor.
