In the manga Ranma to use the "dragon blast of heaven" (hiryu shoten ha) had to lead his opponent in a spiral while he maintained an icy soul while his opponent released his heated battle aura and when at the centre he punches into the air to complete the process, but in the movie "Big Trouble in Nekonron China" all Ranma does to activate it when fighting Kirin at the end was pronounce the words "hiryu shoten ha". Is there a reason for this or is it just creative licensing?

Well, I haven't seen that movie for a long time (borrowed from a friend. . .loong ago), but I believe that it had to do with the amount of heat that was already in the air. Like, in the Herb storyline, I remember that Ranma was able to lead the heat from Herb's various ki attacks and use that to do the Hiryu Shoten Ha (which Herb used against Ranma). Though, I haven't read that in awhile either. Ask Hiyoku, I believe she'd probably know more about that (just a guess, don't hurt me if I'm wrong. . .or if I'm right).
