which one i would said lain. because lain was more challengeing than boogiepop to figure out the plot and stuff. And was more deep. In boogiepop out u had to do is just part all of the mix around parts together thats it

boogiepop for me, absolutely better. Its one of those few animes u watch 2 eps and u cant stop until u reach the end. after each ep it leaves u with the feeling that u cant keep ur eyes away from the screen.
You could ask any human on earth: Most of them wouldn't have a clue as to what Boogiepop Phantom and SE: Lain are, those who do would give different answers and certainly different reasonings.
I'd say Boogiepop Phantom, if only because I've only seen the first and so called slow dvd of Lain.
Having seen and loved both of them... I definately prefer Boogiepop. The mood of the whole anime pulled me in a bit more, and the way all the characters stories seemed to criss cross was neat.

But still lain was the first. To bring something like this out.And another thing is that.Boogiepop is just like, all u have to do is just put all.Of the times together, and there u go.It was just like a puzzle that u put together, and all the parts was there for u.But in lain they did not tell u noting, and u have to figure everything out.Now thats was chanllengeing, and after u figure everything out.You will be amaze of what comes out of it out.Yeah boogiepop was more scaryer, but is was not as deep as lain. And thats what make lain better.
There was a thread on this a little while ago in the Lain forum, check out: http://animeboards.com/t44090/s.html

It really depends on what you like in an anime, as so many others have said, but especially for how you are feeling in the moment. If you want to watch something that you really need to watch the entire series to understand (as well as several philosophy and interpretation books) you'll probably prefer SE:Lain. If you're looking for more of an episodic anime without needing to fulfill everything you will almost absolutely like Boogiepop better. Personally I haven't seen enough of SE:Lain to be sure whether or not I like it better. I've only seen the video with "KIDS" and "KNIGHTS" but I get a strong impression of it. Boogiepop, on the other hand, I own the first and last DVDs of and they stand fine enough alone.
Although I'd personally rather see Boogiepop video games made as SE:Lain already has its own (which REALLY SHOULD BE BROUGHT TO THE US!)
But that's just me.

'Boogiepop Phantom,' most definitely. I loved putting together the pieces of the show. ^_^

First, I haven't seen Lain yet (I have it on DVD, just need to find time to watch it), so I hope we're not going to get too spoily here. Second, yes, Boogiepop was essentially a big puzzle, but it was not especially easy to figure out. The story was told all out of order making it very confusing. Links were given to help you piece things together, but it's not easy to understand a story that's told non-chronologically *and* from varying viewpoints. If you found Boogiepop Phantom that easy to understand, you had a much better grasp of it than I did then because it was a darn hard puzzle for me to piece together and I still don't think I understand everything in it. From the little I've heard about Lain, I don't think it's told in such a confusing way. The story itself might be confusing and hard to understand, but at least it's told in order from one main viewpoint, right? I would expect that that point alone would make it a bit easier to follow than Boogiepop Phantom. As for which one is better, I don't know, I haven't seen both.

Both anime are unique in their own way, and basically in a different genre. So it's very hard to really compare those two as to which one is the best. Though if you ask my preference, I would say Boogiepop Phantom.

Personally I prefer Boogiepop Phantom over Lain. Although Lain is probably the more difficult of the two to understand, Boogiepop's style of story telling and it's message made much more sense to me personally. Plus, the shear artisticness of Boogiepop is a world apart from Lain, the animation is some of the best I've seen and the use of sound is absolutely incredible. I think overall on an artistic level, Boogiepop is the winner hands down.
Lain is better than Boogiepop.
Boogiepop is better than Lain.
Both of the preceding sentences are true.

After watching both series beginning to end in the past couple of weeks, I would have to say I enjoyed Lain slightly better. Although I did like both series, I found Lain's storyline to be a bit more interesting (being a computer geek...) and Lain also seemed easier to follow.

I watched most of the LAIN series since I last posted on this board and I still like Boogiepop better. Perhaps it was because I was sick and falling asleep or perhaps it was simply because I like less sketchy character designs but either way I liked Boogiepop better visually and overall. I doubt either one has extremely drastic leads against the other in any category and I liked both of them. LAIN is just a little too... involved for me.

Boogiepop is better. It has more interesting characters and an even more fucked up storyline. And don't forget the amazing OSTs that compliment this show.
