Considering that FB is a shojo series, I would be interested in hearing what it's male fans think of it.
Me? I love it for the laughs, the absurd changes in animation and mood, the appealing characters, the heart-breaking moments and the fact it looks like an alternate Love Hina (Click here for more thoughts on this (http://animeboards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=52809) )

 I guess mostly girls watch it, but its not really an exclusive thing, as you guys prove.
Its not like Furuba is the "chick flick" of anime. Or is it...Nah, that would be Weiss Kreuz.

This is odd because MOST people who recommended this to me were male. I guess they're just too shy to post it here. ^^
I've seen a few episodes and I liked it and read a couple of chapters of the manga as well.
I don't know if I'm a fan but I've liked what I've seen and I'll probably pick up the dvd's when Madman release them in Australia, since Funimation did a great job splitting it over 4 dvds.

I like the series a lot as well. The characters are what does it for me. My fav has to be Hatori. Reminds me of myself a lot, besides the good-looking part. Anyways, I was kinda miffed by the ending, so I'm reading the manga.

I enjoy Fruits Basket. Im currently trying to get through the series now.
I must say, Ayame is my hero. I ------- mean it. Him and I were exactly the same in highschool, no exagerration. I did it all (including the homosexual bits). Ahhhh, such good times. We both share a very modest opinion of ourselves and are uber funny and cool.
Overall however I must say that the series is too mushy. WAY too mushy. At times it seems like she is just so ------- dumb it's not worth crediting. The series alternates between funny, stupid and mushy. Wayyyyy too mushy.
Also, I dig the sound track they use with it. So carefree. I soo want Ayame's theme to be played everytime I walk into a room.
Yeah, at times Tohru gets on my nerves. She's a sweet and kind person, but she freaks out about everything. After awhile of watching her flap her arms around and babble in panic, it gets kind of tiring!
But I like this series enough to finish it up when the last dvd comes out. The other characters are awesome. The episode where they introduced Ayame was one of the funniest anime episodes I've seen, in any series.

Ah, i thought that last post will generate some action
Mushy? No way! I don't think Tohru is annoying - i just find her overacting funny. And that's why comedy's are made, right?
Overacting is funny, but uber-overacting is just annoying IMO. I like her, but she goes psycho at every little thing, apologizing left and right. After awhile it kind of gets on my nerves... :heh:
I suppose that's just her character, though. Maybe I was just in a bad mood last time I watched FB, because usually she doesn't annoy me as much as she did in the last few episodes I saw.

One of the funny things about Fruits Basket.. is how the guys treat her in regards to requests for food and stuff. Especially the Neko. He will just be like: "Im hungry" and she'll rush off to make him dinner. As much as Dheu loves me, I doubt I could ever get her or any other living existing female to do that (without coercion or a huge bank account).
She's such a soft dumbass. Be funny to see her get married. Up till then she'd be thinkin childish romance.. then suddenly her fiance would "whip it out" and oh man... *shakes head*
Psychic chick's family is scary and weird.

 She's the epitome of the "too-nice-walk-all-over-me" type. I love that scene where those boys consider asking Tohru out because "she's so dopey and nice she'd be too stupid to say no!" And she has that little clueless eyeball thing going on. Tohru, Tohru, Tohru.

 Almost makes me worry about her. Hehe.

Hmmm, what are her parents like? Her little bro, hehehe. He's really funny when he gets the "these people are all retards" look on his face, but when you're dealing with the Yuki Fan Club, who wouldn't?

Ah, Megumi....
Remember when the Yuki Fan club learnt that he knew their names and were freaking out whilst he was grinning a sadastic manner?
When saw that, I commented of him: "I see Dead people!!!"
And everyone laughed :lol::lol::lol:

Except Number 2!!! Number 2 didnt need to freak out!
Hey Jennwenn, it goes beyond them just treating her a bit like dirt. They also treat her as irrelavent. She truely is the "ignore her until ya need her" female stereotype of like the 50s or something!
If she said "please dont fight", they'd still fight. in fact, whenever "men's business" more or less comes up, nobody gives a ---- about Tohru. but then when they're a pack of mushy wimps, little miss dazed and confuzzled helps out. hell, the think the TV show milks her mother's death for everything they can. They couldnt create a TRUELY strong character, so instead they just have some brainless idiot whose mother died.
The show's main character uses slapstick humour more or less.. which usually means it's a completly harmless show. But it does at times do things which seem out of place for 'tone'. Like the cow, when he turns into 'black' mode. Takes the president into the toilets, or when he asks Tohru if they can "do it". Or my hero, Ayame talking about how the senior students had sex.. yet the senior students of Tohru's class cant even seem to admit feelings let alone get down and do the dirty.
pffffffffffffffffft
(If it wasnt for my sensei, the great and grand Ayame, I'd not love the show nearly as much).

Ah, I like "Number 2". My favorite member of the Yuki Fan Club. And I swear, the president is ASUKA! ASUKA!!!!! I totally did NOT understand her "traumatic childhood graduation nostalgia" episode. What is she talking about?!?! Those girls belong in Clueless, or Silence of the Lambs.

Wow, I actually see your point. And I'm a Tohru fan. I also found it annoying when some of the scenes basically become "who gets to hug Tohru" time. Or the million times she gets stuck cleaning the house, getting the groceries, doing the laundry, making dinner, etc. She goes to school and has a night-job. Can't the boys do ANYTHING around the house and help her out?! Kyo-kun is always lying on the ground with nothing to do but fight Yuki. And Shigure is the king of procrastination.
Sure she's staying for free and this is her exchange, but she's not the frickin maid. She might as well wear Shigure's maid outfit and call him "master". ( Shigure and his sick high school girl fantasies hehe.) And you're right. They never listen to Tohru unless things get really bad. Then its "waahaha Tohru my life sucks boohoo". Those guys would be total messes if it weren't for Tohru, and they don't give her any R-E-S-P-E-C-T.
And Tohru, she's incredibly kind and a miracle social worker, but she should stick up for herself!!!! Ah well, I suppose being orphaned at that age and having to be an "adult-child" and responsible one when her Mom was alive anyway can do that to you. Overall, I find Tohru a lot more tolerable than other characters similar to her, like Sailor Moon or Miaka.

Again, I agree. Some of the humour is just too out there and I can't see it fit in. I never really liked Haru's "black" mode. Isn't Kagura's bipolar complex enough? (Nothin' against the cute Haru-chan of course. :D) Seeing Tohru wigg out is funny most of the time, but not all the time.

I too admire the god known as "Ayame." Ayame is so uber cool! Anyhoo, does anyone know the whole "From now on, all sexual desires shall be given to me!" speech?

No, but I swear if I had the memory I'd use it. If only you could see a tape of me in year 12, and then watch him. The similarities arent your typical anime-geek-trying-to-associate-themselves-with-favourite-character, we actually said a lot of the same sorta stuff.
I went to an anime society tonight, 1 episode to go! Tohru has just been crying on her mother's grave and been forced to go. Finally, THIS is what I like in anime. Rather than mushy words solving everything.
I guess I'll never see Ayame again..how could they possibly fit him in the last episode?
Also, Im now twice as smart as all of you, so I think I have an answer to the Grandfather cat having grandchildren despite being 'alone'. It would seem to me, that the grandfather probably had a marriage of conveniance or some such thing... that he was never truely "loved and accepted", he may have hidden what he was from whoever he mated with.
Kinda like the whole "being lonely in the middle of a crowded room" sorta thing.

I love the way he continually drives his editor bonkers!
And at times he reminds me of me

 Don't worry I love Shi-chan as well! (After Kyo-kun, he's 2nd fave in my book.) Sure he has a high school girl fetish, but that's the source of the best humour. Shigure IS the comedy in Fruits Basket. I love it when he and Ayame do their hyper friends act, or yeah, Shigure driving his editor bonkers.

I can say that I too adore Ayame..in a weird way he reminds me of *dirty minded* self...hehe... I just love to say this quote: "The night is long and I'm in no mood for sleep, Shigure."
I got most of my guy friends into this anime and so far they love it. Although they wish there was more action in it but oh well, I wont complain.

I want Ayame love! =*(
Women get all the cool partners. We only get bimbos and stereotypes.
Seriously
Tohru = airhead.
Ayame = awesome.
Although, in NGE we got our own back. The girls can keep Shinji. Bwahahahahaha

I've seen some earlier episodes (1,2,4,5,6) and really like it. Haru is fscking hilarious. I don't really watch it for the bishoujo/bishounen factor (though I do like Kyo/neko, he's relateable). I think they make a lot of the characters something a lot of people can relate to, in terms of experiences. The storyline is good, the characters are fun, the animation is good if not great. Haru! Haru pwns! I loved his entrace, it's so great.
Yuki Yuki Yuki, I want to kick the crap out of the Yuki-love club. The sheer adrogeny presented by Yuki, it's sickening. I think I would feel more sure about Yuki if we were all out told he was a shemale or something. But, I gotta love Hana-chan's antics (it was Hana, the black-haired psychic freak, right?) with them.

I just recently seen it. I love it. Tohru doesn't bother me at all. I find her stupidity somewhat refreshingly funny. I've seen the first three DVDs and it doesn't seem that mushy to me. But then again I do like some Shojo titles and may have grown used to it. At least if there are mushy parts they aren't that noticeable. I think they do a great job of bouncing between romantic and goofiness. My favorite character would be hard one to think but the one I got on a test once was Saki. It is wierd. My electric waves are not same wavelength as her's exactly. But I suppose one must get someone. I like all the characters except Momoji. That kid is annoying. It bothers me everytime he opens his mouth to sing. Tohru's voice isn't that bad and her actress is pretty good voice for it.

I'm a big manly man(dare you to say otherwise) and I love fruits basket. I think shoujo series are the best, generally. One of my other favorite animes is Fushigi Yuugi. I also love simple character romance series, with little or no action (kare kano, kimagure orange road.)

I just finished watching this show, may I say I Loved it. Well, for more reasons than one, anywho what a great story! Boy, if Fred Lou didn't remind me of myself all the time, i would defintaly be an Ayame. My brother can't stand me, but thats who I am ^-^. Does anyone else know some anime shows like this?

I'm actually a bit of a fan of the show. It's a nice relaxing bit of entertainment to put on at the end of a long day. Not to mention the humour that comes through really well in the english dub. ^^

It's great anime and an even greater manga, after a long boring day it is quite entertaining to read... Kisa is the cutest little kid ever...
