first of all, i have NOT seen the entire series, ive only seen up to dvd 3. anyhow, i was just re-watching episode 8 (or maybe 7), probably one of my favorite scenes. im talking about the part with Kana and Hatori. see, i dont understand why Akito diclined the marriage between the two when Kana is part of the Sohma family, i also thought that they wont turn into the zodiac animals if hugged by the opposite sex of the same family...so whats up? o yea, if they say it later in the series (which i doubt), then just please say 'keep watching'.

Part one of your question: hard to answer. I'd say "keep watching", but it's never specifically answered in the anime. Suffice it to say--and this isn't a spoiler, so don't worry--that Akito is very possessive and has issues with either the Juunishi having romances or women in general.

Part two of your question: only if that person is also a Juunishi animal (or the cat).

Yeh, not all Souma are Juunishi. The weird woman at the hot springs for instance, isnt juunishi but her son is.
