Delayed to make DVD better.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We've confirmed with TOKYOPOP that the first DVD for Initial D has been delayed from its planned August release date to sometime in September.

According to Kristien Brada-Thompson of TOKYOPOP, the delay is so that they can "make the DVD that much better." The details of the changes to the DVD are not available right now, but should be out within a month.

In regards to Initial D on TV, Thompson informed ANN that TOKYOPOP is still in the midst of working on it but that no details could be made public until everything is finalyzed. Previously the DVD release had been delayed while they worked on TV plans, but Thompson explained that regardless of whether or not the TV plans are finalyzed, the DVD will be coming out in September.

Well by making it better they should of stuck with the original names and music! Stupid Tokyopop ...

Tokyopop and AEG annouonce Initial D Trading Card Game

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Excerpts from Press Release:

TOKYOPOP announced yesterday the upcoming release of a trading card game (or collectible card game / CCG) based on their flahship Anime title, Initial D. The game will be manufactured by card giant AEG, the company also known for the popular Legend of the Five Rings trading card game, and will be available in stores in October.

Excerpts from Press Release:

“The coolest thing about the Initial D trading card game is how it allows fans to extend Initial D’s original storyline. With multiple combinations of cars, race courses and modifications possible, players experience Initial D as it has never existed befor e in print or onscreen,” says Stuart Levy, TOKYOPOP Founder and CEO. “And with AEG’s in-depth understanding of trading card game play and the gamer’s mindset, TOKYOPOP is truly excited to see what the company can do with a title like Initial D.”

To compete, Initial D players adopt the role of street racers driving a variety of tuner cars. Competitors can trick out their cars with modifications and special tuner parts obtainable through various cards, and then prepare to race at one of the many tra cks featured in the original anime series. Once the racing starts, players use special action cards to outmaneuver and outwit opponents. Their goal: awesome drifts and other gutsy maneuvers that leave the competition in the dust.

Beginning in October 2003, Initial D game cards will be available at major retailers nationwide. Players can purchase Initial D starter decks that include 55 cards, a set of rules, game counters and a foil card for a suggested retail price of $12.99. Addi tional 11-card booster packs also include one foil card to each pack and will be available for a suggested retail price of $3.29 each.

This sounds funky ... will it be as a big hit as the Pokemon card games ...

I don't think so, well, at least for now. I dont' think little kids will play with it moreso than the agegroup from high school and above. I honestly can't see what they will do. . . maybe have cars, with good cars being rare cards? Then maybe having special tune-up cards and mods, better mods being rares?

There's really no hint at how well it is going to do upon release. . . though if it catches on with other card-game fads such as Pokemon or Yu-Gi-Oh!, we'll be seeing a lot of it around.

As for the DVDs, I share your anger, they should have left the names alone. Anyhow, along the signs of "making it better", I can't see what they can fix up other than maybe some screening edits and the music. Call me weird if you want, but I actually enjoyed the Eurobeat music.

I cant seem to imagine a card game concept trying to complement a racing concept

lol, actually, I'm if they do look nice, I'd probably see if I can find a FD3, EVO III/IV, AE86, or WRX GTi.

Chances are though, some'll probably be "the rarest cards" and thus, be hard to get. If so, I probably wouldn't even try for any.

Nah the rarest cards for cars would be AE86, rx-7 fc model, and the ITR.

rarest mod cards would be trd engine uprgrade group a or whatever model Takumi's new engine is. And "misfiring system" aka ALS

rarest manuever cards would be corner jump and gutter run.

I put money on it

I know the feeling, lol.

I remember when I sucked an could barely beat Shingo in version 1. Once version 2 came out though, it felt a lot different. I sat down and beat Myogi and Usui in one sitting. It might just be me, but I kinda like the way the steering wheel reacts in this version, not to mention they removed the rocket-start trick. It also feels like that your opponents don't always get the advantage on the hairpins and turns like they did in version 1.

The TOKYOPOP DVD release of Initial D will include an 'Import - Classic' version (Japanese audio & video intact) and a special U.S. 'Tricked Out' version featuring enhanced video, music, and English dialogue. Fans can 'mix-and-match' these versions, thereby customizing their viewing of each exciting episode!

I forgive you Tokyopop but whos gonna bother to watch the US 'tricked out' version anyway and miss out on the eurotrash. And I wonder what this enhanced video is ...

Steathassasn

the special enhanced video = all the races are bettween Speed Racer and Takami and Mogi's character is replaced with Rio (From burn up ) or Belldandy ( oh my goddess)

and Itsuki is replaced with Krilin from Dragonball Z

but this could all be mearly speculation

New rumor is that the new redone CG scenes from Battle Stage will be used to replaced the CG that was originally there, hence the "enhanced" video. Time will tell.

Enhanced video just the video from Battle Stage hmm that be pretty good though it would look somewhat wierd the below average character designs with 3DCG quality like the movie ..
