Just wait till episode 13 past. If you think it's good now, wait till then, it gets much better and a lot more happens in each episode. Best anime ever IMO.

The ending sucks though... sure i get what hitomi got for her fortune... "you will find love..." She sure did... but what's it all worth if they can't be with each other... still means that they're going to find someone else to spend their life with... grrr... it doesn't make sense!!! i tell you!!!

I think the point they are trying to make is that they were Able to love. So it doesn't matter if they can't be together because at least they loved. ^^Just thoughts.

can someone please explain to me the basic storyline of Escaflowne? all i know is that Vhan and some girl from another universe are running away from an invisible enemy...

Nairohe

It's hard to explain the whole series on one concrete... uh... plot... but here goes.

Gaia is the world created by the People of Atlantis in hopes that their mistakes will never be repeated again. This world is where Hitomi (the girl) was transported all of a sudden... why'd she get transported? remember, she asked the cards if she will find love, and she did, and that was Van (the king of Fanelia.)

Basically, the whole story was trying to prove if faith can be altered by a machine, which was once created by the people of Atlantis. If you watch the whole series, it'll be explained how and why. Hitomi and Van are constantly being pulled apart but are brought together out of the blue/no explanation/no proof/no theory/miracle... and they fall inlove because they choose to and not because of faith.

um... did i confuse you? It's not that easy to explain...

Damn, I knew there as more to the series than Van and Allen fighting off Zaiboch! Gotta get those other tapes...say, there's Vision of Escaflowne and just Escaflowne, right? Or is VoE what it's called in the States?

Nairohe

There's only one Escaflowne. IN the US, its called "Escaflowne." but the real title of the series is "Visions of Escaflowne." I hope that cleared up everything. There's also a movie out which is only available in fansub as far as i know... and i'm trying to hunt it down... i hope i do get it soon...

thanks Nairohe, that info brings me closer to wanting to see the whole series :D

Oh, god. I just finished the 5th and 6th tapes, during which Hitomi, Van, and Allen finally realized what the hell is going on and how the Mystic Moon figures into everything. Those scenes were some of the most powerful, tense, and well-directed anime scenes I'v ever seen. I felt as confused as everyone else, flooded with info, trying to deal with it, but something new would pop up, forcing me to sit up and make a new "oh ----!!!" revelation (I love those :) ), and to reconsider everyone's relationship. Simply awesome plot twists!

um ... yeah what you just said

So, I want to get this correct. Allen is the son of the guy who found Issac and the Mystic Valley. Hitomi is the descendant of the girl who led him there. Van has wings and is a direct descendant from the Draconians/Atlanteans. Issac is a regular guy from the Mystic Moon who got vamped to Gaea; he is also Dornkirk, leader of Zaiboch. Amazing what a few episodes can do to your perception of an anime...is there a manga?

Nairohe

there is a manga... the sub i had says that it was based on a manga by.. forgot his name,... but i will hunt it down!

I think that there were actually two mangas, one which was more male-orientated called Escaflowne Shonen Ace, the other was more of a shoujo manga called Escaflowne Asuka Fantasy DX.
I loved the anime series, but I agree with Nairohe, the ending sucked. It's the only thing I don't like about the series.

Plain and simple it revolves around a bunch of characters that want to make a better future for there world.

Just an observation, but isn't the ultimate fortune zone (I think that's what it was called) a LOT like Evangelion's third impact? They are both supposed to make everyone happy with a giant field effect and they both..... well, I won't spoil it for people that haven't seen it, but they seem awefully simular to me............

Most animes are based on mangas.

Actually, Random, Esca was out before Eva, so, if one were copying the other, it would be Eva. Still, though, you do have a point.

again you are wrong eva came out before esca. Though it was out 6 months at the most before escaflowne, their is no way they copied off each other.

That's strange, I could've sworn escaflowne came out about a month or two in Japan than Evangelion did.....? I'd better go toture that Sunrise worker locked up in my basement some more to figure this out.
