I saw the trailer for Arjuna on Vol 1 of FLCL and I've been interested in getting it as it looked very good and I fell in love with the music score immediately.
The first volume was released this week and I picked up a copy today. After the first three eps (how many eps are there?) I was disappointed.
The music score is brilliant and I am upset that the madman release does not have the isolated music track that the US disc got.
The visuals are for the most part stunning but the CG is ugly and there is a lot of it, ultimately making the visuals on the whole lacking as the CG really detracts.
I was hoping for something a little more personal from the perspective of the heroine of the story as it certainly looked that way from the trailer but ultimately I felt like I was having to empathise with a reluctant superhero in training instead of a 'real' person.
That was the kill point for me with this, I don't like the main character and the premise although interesting, is way too underdeveloped. The DBZ styled war crys in this series and magical girl transformation sequances really don't help either.
I'm not going to be buying anymore of the DVDs of Arjuna but I'm sure I'll see them anyway, my girlfriend loved it and I think she'll be picking the rest up. Maybe this is a 'chick's' anime but I doubt that was the problem.
