View Full Version : Is it any good?
I've seen a few trailers and have read about it a little, and I've got to say I'm now trembling with excitment (or maybe something else after seeing that trailer on the 1st Burn Up Excess DVD). What I'd like to know now is whether it'll live up to my expectations or will I be greatly disappointed?
And also, does anyone have any idea when it'll be released in Aus? There's not much about it on Madman's site.
Here is what I posted in the big FMP thread I made that isn't closed after i watched the ending of the series and some comments I made afterwards about it
Well I started following this series as soon as AnimeDaisuki posted a realplayer trailer of it on their site September 2001.
I loved the start of it, the first seven eps were gold but then the filler episodes started to get annoying so I stopped watching it for a long time (until about a month ago) and focused on other series I was finding much more interesting (RahXephon, Scryed).
I started watching again and the next serious mini arc (the Behemoth) wasn't that well done but episodes 15-17 were excellent the high point of the series in my opinion. The ending arc was done well but just didn't do it for me as much as the start and 15-17.
The animation was high class, one of the few Studio Gonzo series were the animation didn't drop after the first few eps along with GateKeepers. The character and mecha designs were tops in my book and I liked the use of CG in this anime, not to overdone like Vandread (Even though thats the style vandread is going for)
The opening and ending themes were great and the bgm was suitable I liked a couple of themes in the show (the one that plays during the whisper sections was nice) and will get the ost. I'm happy that the guy who composed this series is doing the new Gundam SEED series. (He also did the Big O.)
The characters were likeable from the stupidness of Sagara (It's a coincidence!) to Webbers sleazyness (if only I had a camera now) to the cute and timid Tessa and then Kaname. Gaul was a nice villian and he had a cool character design as did most of the cast.
If the filler episodes were of higher quality than this series would easily have made my favourite anime list but it just falls short, theres alot I like about it but it just isn't as good as the rest on my list.
Something I would give a B to, a 8/10 a 80/100 etc
Nice fun anime and I wouldn't mind a sequel at all Studio Gonzo.
{Fav Anime List - Berserk, Cowboy Bebop, Macross Plus, RahXephon, Read Or Die, Rurouni Kenshin OVAS, Scryed and Vision Of Escaflowne.)
*Later On*
FMP was confused with what it wanted to be. At times it was trying to be Love Hina and at others Gundam. It tryed to master two genres but ended up being average in both.
Still worth watching once like Hiig said, though it went from a dvd purchase to hoping a friend would buy it.
And I lower my score of 80% (just look up a few posts) that was too generous, make it....72%
Also I read that Madman is releasing it in September and don't get me wrong 72% is a good score, anything over 60 is a good anime in my books thats worth watching.
Yes i think its worth watching.
It has alittle of everything really.

I've seen about 6 eps. I can safely say it's good. I still need to see more though, someday.

Well, this is one of those titles that I expected to be worth it, but turned out to be below average. The biggest problem with FMP is its lack of identity. It's like one of those wannabe SUVs that are not really meant for off-road driving, thus makes you feel frustrated as what you are suppose to regard it as. And story itself is not very convincing. Characters are unique enough but not really appealing, and too many filler roles to be memorable. But it's slightly better than Argentosoma, which I didn't like at all.
