Back! And my friend taped it, so yay!

Episode 12 - Entanglement

FX and close-up of a pen tapping a notepad. A doctor is talking with a man (Tsukasa's father?) about the difference between being brain dead and being a vegetable. The patient (Tsukasa?) can still wake up. They discuss the precedent of the plug being pulled, the example of Nancy Cruzan is brought up.

Reality note: Nancy Cruzan isn't a fictional character, she's an actual court case about the right for the family to pull the plug, the case involved evidence of whether the actual person would want the plug to be pulled, and the difference between a vegetative state and brain death.

The doctor notes that despite tubefeeding, the patient is abnormally thin.

Cut to a conversation between Tsukasa and Mimiru. Mimiru is offering a Rod that she apparently received in a fight. Tsukasa isn't interested. In fact, he isn't interested at all in leveling up, or receiving better equipment, etc. (Amusing note: There's evidence to suggest his staff is already a level 99 rare, though he probably doesn't know that.) He tells Mimiru to sell the staff and buy equipment for herself if she wants to.

Mimiru uses this transition to muse how nice it would be if they could spend The World's money in the real world. Like they do in Pachinko. She could buy a bag at a certain market in a place in Tokyo she knows, for example.

Tsukasa reveals himself in asking about details of the shop. What entrance it's by, northern or southern? Mimiru realizes that Tsukasa's familiarity means he's been there, suggesting he's a Tokyo resident. She also notes Tsukasa's apparent accent (not that we can hear it in the dub)

Tsukasa avoids the subject by noting that it's late. This brings up whether Tsukasa needs food or sleep. Neither. He notes that there are times he's been unconcious, but it's not the same as sleep. Mimiru worries. Tsukasa says she should go to bed. Was and brush her teeth, etc. (He's ruder in the original, saying she smells.)

She leaves, and Tsukasa hears a bell. Apparently it's a summons from The Voice. He's apprehensive.

Elsewhere, Subaru gives a start. One instance of the odd psychic bond betweren the two. She's talking with Silverknight. She wants to be informed if ANYONE wants to contact her. (:coughTsukasacough:) SilverKnight says he will. Suuuure.

Tsukasa's in his Secret Place. Thorny vines are surrounding the Sleeping Girl, and there is a dark ambiviance. Tsukasa tries to pull the vines away, and they tear at his hands, hurting him.

Elsewhere, Mimiru and Bear are discussing what Tsukasa's slip means about his real world identity. Bear muses about areas easily reached by train to that market. He suddenly runs off. (Probably to research this new development.)

Tsukasa is stil lstruggling with the vines. The Cat appears, and looks angry with Tsukasa. Tsukasa calls him by his name. Maha. (Is this the first time Tsukasa ever used Maha's name? Someone on a newsgroup was suprised when I used Maha's name in a previous review.

Tsukasa asks if the vines around the Girl are his fault.

Then, in the real world, the plug is pulled from the patients respirator. Tsukasa falls in The World, clutching at his chest. Someone breaks into the patient's room, and struggles with whoever pulled the plug.

Bear is talking with B.T. He's convinced now that the mentioned above is Tsukasa. He mentions that a severely disturbed individual (with bruises and bumps on their body) broke into the hospital, and pulled the plug. The patient survived because they only partially required artificial respiration.

It should be noted, that this seems rather random. Especiually given the conversation at the beginning of this series. Fan speculation is that Bear, not quite trusting B.T. (which wouldn't be too big a stretch) didn't quite tell B.T. the whole truth. I think this "mental patient" was either recruited by Tsukasa's father or actually is Tsukasa's father.

B.T. reiterates her point that Bear's involvement in Tsukasa should be all or nothing. He should be prepared to take _full_ responsibility for Tsukasa, if any at all. She also notes that Tsukasa might not want to leave The World, even if Bear find a way.

Back in the Secret Place, The Voice tells Tsukasa the story of the Little Mermaid, who wished to leave the sea for her prince. But The Prince married someone else, and the Little Mermaid became foam.

(This is true, this is what happens in the Original Non-Disney version. The Voice fails to mention that the Little Mermaid then gained the opportunity to go to heaven, which is something meramids normally didn't do in the story.)

According to The Voice,The three of them, The Voice, Tsukasa, and the Sleeping Girl can all be happy if Tsukasa stops trying to return to the Real World.

Maha's quietly watching while floating by.

"You are a good boy, Tsukasa. As long as we walk together, I will protect you." (Interesting, the second sentence is the exact thing she said in the beginning, it's signifcant.)

Despite this promise of protection, after this, the Voice stops speaking, and Maha leaves, to Tsukasa's lonliness and despair.

Krim and B.T. are talking. Krim says that he told her "off-line" (I think by E-mail, not the Real World) that the only thing they really have in common is their search for the Key of the Twlight.

B.T. waves this aside, and moves on to what she's speculated. The two foci of their search are the mysterious e-mail message, and Tsukasa. Since both break the rules of The World, and this is what the Key of the Twlight supposedly does. B.T. notes they need constant surveilance of Tsukasa. Krim wonders how this is possible, and B.T implies there are others they can use. Krim realizes she's talking about Subaru, and is upset. B.T. is amused.

Tsukasa is back at the cave where he was originally held captive by the Knights, and first met Subaur. (We see those Fireflies.) He flashes back to her, and says "I want to see...." He trails off and then teleports away.

Second later, Subaru comes into the cave, she was looking for Tsukasa. Sad that he isn't there, she leaves. Outside the cave, Krim hails her from above. Apparently he got over his outrage over having Subaru keep tabs on Tsukasa. Though he does have some good advice. Subaru is feeling the weight of being "Subaru of the Crimson Knights" Krim tells her that if she feels that way, she should quit. Why bee what you don't want to be? (I suspect Subaru doesn't know what she wants to be.)

In another part of the word (sheesh, I'm running out of different ways of saying "Elsewhere....")

Mimiru and Bear are talking. Bear is apologizing for being "wrong" Tsukasa, that the patient _isn't_ Tsukasa. (Uh huh.)

Mimiru wonders where Tsukasa's been lately. He's disappeared. She's happy he's not in any more trouble, but worries about what's happening. She wonders if there's a place only he can go to. Bear gets a message from Subaru that she wishes to talk to him. Mimiru wants to go too, but Bear tells her that she needs to stay there, in case Tsukasa shows up.

Bear tells Subaru that Tsukasa is in trouble. He IS the patient in the hospital. (IE, Bear was lying to Mimiru)

Bear notes that there's no proof that logging out will enable Tsukasa to wake up, but regardless, he thinks Tsukasa should log out for his own good.

Bear wants Subaru to talk to Tsukasa. Subaru wouldn't really have anything to say, to which Bear replies that it could be about anything. Any interest. That's what conversations are about. Subaru sadly notes she's really not good at conversation. She also wryly notes she thinks Tsukasa isn't the type to be good at conversations either.

Back at Mimiru, Tsukasa teleports into the area. She's happy at first to see him, but notes that things are wrong. His hands are all torn (the vines) Tsukasa is passive-aggressive, evasive, and makes excuses and tries to avoid the subject. This scene is VERY traditional scene of someone who's been abused.

Bears shows up, Mimiru asks him what Subaru said (to Tsukasa's interest) Bear says they'll talk about that later. He asks Tsukasa if they'll help the look for the Key of the Twlight. Bear thinks that it will help Tsukasa get back to the Real World.

Tsukasa flashes back to The Voice, which asks him "Where do you want to be?" Bear asks the same thing.

Tsukasa softly says that he needs more time, and leaves them.

Back at the secret place, Tsukasa has "figured it out." He is the little mermaid, and there's nothing good outside the sea. He shouldn't leave The World, that's what the Voice meant, right?

The Vines leave the Girl, and Tsukasa notes that "He was right."
