My, my, my. What a quiet forum here.
I just started watching Blue Seed and finished episodes 1 through 5, and so far I’m not sure whether I like it or not. First of all, the dialogue feels like it lacking at time, with characters uttering nothing but each other’s names (in concern, in anger, in despair, etc.) for ten or so lines. Then there is that typical shoujo introduction of the characters that I personally find annoying. Yes, I know it is (or was) common in Anime to tell the person’s name, blood type, sign, personality, likes and dislikes, etc. in a voice over, but it interrupts the flow of an anime more often than not imo. Finally, it has that “battle a new monster over episode” redundancy so far. On the plus side, the character development looks good so far, delving into each person’s past (as per the standard anime formula), and there are some humorous bits that made me smile.
Also, I believe it was released in Japan in 1995. How well was it received there?
EDIT: I'm over half way through, and while with the introduction of Sakura, that long haired baddie, and Kaede the plot has gotten more interesting, I'm still getting tired of the endless lines of
"Kusanagisan." (wistful)
"Kusanagisan!" (surprised)
"Kusanagisan?" (confused)
"Kusanagisan!" (happy)
etc.
