What is the purpose of the dolems

Yeah why are they there for, because I know the angels was like messages for God in eva. But what is the purpose of the dolems.

If you ask me they have a 2 fold reason for existance..

The first is that as explained in the series that form some sort of life support for Muians

The seccond is as terror weapons

oh well... this is my perception of Eva/Rah...

What the dolems were is exactly what angels were in Eva...

The Dolems are there to reclaim the world that humanity took from them...

But there is one dolem... which turns out to be Eva 01 or RahXephon who was to decide whether humanity lives...

It is this most powerful gift that humans were given the choice to live a life of choices... Ayato/Shinji finally decide for themselves that their human lives are worth living...

and the second reason that Dolems/Angels are there is they are there as punching bags so Ayato/Shinji could tear them apart...
