i just finished watching the last tape of escaflowne, and all i'm wondering is...WHY THE HELL DIDN'T SHE STAY?!?! i don't understand. she said she loves van, so why didn't she stay with him? but other than that little complaint, escaflowne was the 2nd best anime i've ever seen.:B:

Maybe because its not her world and she has a life and responsibilities in her own world.

im not sure about this, but Van did say that Hitome can visit Fanelia or planet Gaea anytime she wants right? its been a while since i last watched escaflowne...

well just have to start a new series, then we can get depressed all over again when we watch the last episode.
i think she should have stayed w/ van too. but how is she suposed to go back and visit him if she gave him her pendant thingy?
Van will just pick her up on planet Earth using Escaflowne..:D

Think about it... Van did promise Hitomi that he will do everything he could to get her back to Earth... and he keeps his promise... unfortunately, he does fall inlove with her and he needs to keep his promise... so she has to go.
Hitomi on the other hand... she wants to stay, but she really wanted to go home. At least it didn't end up like most anime where they do try to find a way to be with each other like in Sailormoon or Fushigi yuugi... it's something that only happens... so Escaflowne could happen in real life? blink blink*
Another thought... I don't think Hitomi considers Gaia a real world... it's sort of ... another world or a dream for her. She does love Van, its just not too real for her... um... its hard to explain... but sort of... well, your IRL and the Cyber world...

Et in reply to the topic, I think that it is a combination of what Nairohe has said and that Hitome has her own resposibilities to persue and fulfill, no?

I feel that all you girls crying cause she didnt stay should realize that hitomi is indeed a high school student, and in japan not unlike most other countries girls tend to get puppy love. And everyone forgets she was inlove back on earth with mister i will time your run.

I don't think that Hitomi and Van's love was "puppy love," as you so blantanly put it, Buddman. Everything they went through reinforced the feelings they had for each other, making them realize they did love each other. And she had a crush on the Amano, she didn't love him. She certainly wasn't involved with him either! And what makes you think they're all girls, anyway? I don't think that she should've stayed, but I was upset that Van didn't go to her, instead, and I'm a guy. And I'm not gay, either. I just know good relationship writing when I see it. And, Nairohe, Hitomi knew that Gaea was a real world. She says so in the opening. She considers it a real world, alright.
Right, well I can see you're grabbing your torches and pitchforks and giving me ugly looks, so I'm just gonna leave now......:sweatdrop

Yeah, he did say that. But he didn't mean that she could just pop up on Gaea anytime she wanted. It was like a spiritual thing. Like when someone tells you that a loved one still lives on, as long as you remember the time you spent together. She can visit Gaea anytime she wants, as long as she doesn't forget it. Something like that.
