View Full Version : The Popularity of Orphen... or lack there of.

Now why is it that Orphen just isn't popular in the "Western World". Now in the homeland of Japan, Orphen is quite popular. There is a Video Game, 2 Anime Series and some books or something. Heck when you type in "Orphen" in auctions.yahoo.co.jp you get 7 pages worth of Orphen stuff. Here take a look

Orphen on yahoo auctions (http://search.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/search/auc?p=%A5%AA%A1%BC%A5%D5%A5%A7%A5%F3&auccat=0&alocale=0jp&acc=jp)

Now let's go to www.ebay.com . They only have 2 pages of Orphen stuff and half of that is for the bloody Playstation 2 game.

Orphen on ebay (http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?cgiurl=http%3A%2F%2Fcgi.ebay.com%2Fws%2F&krd=1&from=R8&MfcISAPICommand=GetResult&ht=1&SortProperty=MetaEndSort&query=Orphen)

And to back up my statement, just look at the popularity of this forum. Only 3 people. That's shocking. How can such a good series be so popular somewhere and almost inexistence somewhere else? It makes no sense.

It is strange that at least a few more people aren't watching it. It's a good series, after all. Maybe it's just that it hasn't really gotten that much advertising (for lack of a better word). I never heard anything about it before I spontaneously decided to buy it when I saw it on the shelf at the store.

I guess it's just one of those series that people have to be actively searching for it to find out anything about it.... and most people are focusing their attention on other shows. Which is a shame, since it really is an enjoyable show.

I greatly enjoyed 'Orphen,' so it's a shame the anime is not very popular in the U.S. As dheu said, it's most likely lack of advertising that the show isn't seen much. I myself saw the first volume, and then the box set when it was released some time later by a friend, and wouldn't have seen it otherwise.

Well, I enjoyed watching Orphen as well. I am currently waiting for the sequel to be released in States. Funny enough that the video games have garnered more exposure than the anime. It's a good series, but there was nothing to hype it up stateside.:(

Well i for one have always wanted to check out the series but never have. In fact one of the reasons I came to this forum today was to see if it was worth my time, so maybe you guys/girls can help.

Here is a listing of my favorite animes so you have a jist of what I'm into.

Cowboy Bebop
Vampire Hunter D (both movies)
Akira
Ghost In The Shell
Ninja Scroll
Outlaw Star
Big O

Thats a few, as you can see I'm mainly into sci-fish, fantasy types with more of a serious tone. I'm not completely opposed to a little comedy (I like Trigun) but I don't like animes that center around rediculousness. I also don't like animes that ONLY emulate real life....what I mean is I want the characters to have supernatural abilities or powers or live in a strange world or whatever.

One last thing...I didn't really care for NGEva. I don't mind thought provoking animes but not at the expense of completely leaving your audience out of the loop. So nothing TOO abstract please.

So after seeing what I'm into...do you think i would like Orphen?

Thanks for your help guys!

Oops, I somehow must have missed this :heh:

Anyway, Sadly I don't think this is for you. It's a Fantasy Series, and I guess Escaflowne would be close but funnier. The humor is similar to Trigun (a bit) but with the list you have I wouldn't recommend this to you. It's a pity too, this forum needs new business.

Yeah I saw that it ended last week. So hopefully there will now be a little bit more activity in here now. But I suppose that this forum is more popular than a lot of forums on Animeboards.

Hey, no probs. I'm just glad that the Orphen fans are now starting to come out of the woodwork. And Orphen is a great show for Pay TV. Because Orphen seems to be the show that interests you but not enough to buy it on DVD. So yeah, go Optus/Foxtel.
