POSSIBLE MINI SPOILERS AHEAD
My friend bought the first 3 volumes of the Angelic Layer manga and well I got around to read them today. Its only 5 volumes right?
I find it much more funnier love all the chibi-ness of Misakichi, though Icchan doesn't have his lackey to crazy things like eating ramen without slurping he just says blah blah blah or DIE! Its more fastpaced aswell, Misakichi (I forget he actual name :heh: ) only fights one deus before she takes on Suzuka. There arent all those smaller fights in the manga its just basically all the main ones. Ohh and one thing ... Misakichi's mum can walk in the manga?
Art is nice, the chibi scenes are all scribbly and rough and the dolls in battle look very cool though.
I bought all 5 volumes...
The endings better and yes her mother can walk...
Though she still has a 'Dissability' one which is funny when you find out what it is (I really mean that to... Its not black humor... After all its CLAMP...)
Though i think Icchan needed to do motre punishments though... Rather then just say 'You die'

Does it have anything the anime doesn't have? Or is it real true to the anime plotwise?

They kinda don't. Now I have to make sure I'm reading this right but "volumes" are manga books? I have read all 5 books now and I hate how they do the mother situation. They say... SPOILER...
that Misaki's mom wasn't around b/c she has this retarded mental thing where those she's intensely cares for she can't face them. So when she does finally meet her daughter again it's b/c of the sister (the aunt), who's name I can't remember but it's so close to the mom's name. Anyway, that's why. Just a mental thing that makes her extremely shy and faint a lot. Then I think, wait.. either she doesn't care for her sister (the aunt) or this explanation isn't at all true b/c the mom doesn't seem to be too shy around the sister at all. Only Misaki.
But I love what Icchan says. Something to the effect of 'It must have been impossible for your husband'. I mean, when you think about it it makes no sense b/c it would mean that she couldn't have even kissed (let alone more) with her husband if she was that shy. Meaning Misaki would not have existed. Except! If something (did something?) happened to her husband which triggered this reaction in Misaki's mom's mind towards people she care about (or just Misaki b/c Misaki reminds her of her husband who is no more). Even tho, there is no suggestion or discussion of anything happening to the dad -not that I remember reading. That's the only logical way to me that this would even make a lil bit of sense.
I haven't seen the anime but her not being able to walk probably would make more sense.

Wow after over a year I have finally managed to read the final two volumes of Angelic Layer.
Felt rushed that's what I can say, left me dissapointed and with an empty feeling. It was a fun ride though but would of worked better if the matches were stretched out longer and more character development. And yes the reason why Misaki's mother left her when she was young was well absolutely lame .., dissapointed in you CLAMP :P
Just one question, who invented Angelic Layer? I don't recall them saying.
Maybe I should get around to finishing the anime too ..

Based on the anime; its Ichan.
