I picked up the first volume of Full Metal Panic! in all its English-language glory, and I was pretty impressed with it. ADV did a great job on it.

As for storyline, it looks like it's a combo of the first and second seasons, since some of the sections are from Fumoffu. Hilarious stuff, but I was kind of surprised that it didn't do more background of Sousuke. It just sort of started as Fumoffu started, and if you have no idea that Sousuke is actually a sergeant, then you don't get clued in until the last section or so in the first volume of the manga. I like that they gave you background in the beginning of the anime, but I suppose in the manga they want you to see things as Chidori sees them. Still... the manga really just jumped into things, with no preparation at all.

Thoughts/comments? For those of you who have gone both Full Metal Panic ways, which do you like better: manga or anime?

I've read parts of the manga, seeing as the chapters appear in Newtype USA. It has its funny moments and Sagara still gets into all that trouble he does in the anime but it really hasn't done much for me. Maybe if I read some more ..

Yeah, I picked up volume 1 the other day. Actually, I read scanlations when they were coming out and they barely got a little past volume 1. I really liked what I read and decided that I'd pick up when when ADV got around to releasing it. So far, ADV has done a good job. The size is nice and big, the price is very nice($9.99), and the printing looks good. As for the manga itself, of course I love it! I can't get enough of Sousuke being as illogical and irrational as you can possibly be. Of course, I always like the interaction between Kaname and Sousuke.

Oh yeah, a story does develop later on. It basically follows the Whispered story arc like the 1st anime series did(though that was based on the novels). Fumoffu seems to be very loosely based on the manga since it goes for more comedy and has the president in there(not in the novels), though I doubt they'll bother actually going into the Whispered story arc since it was already covered in season 1.

As for preference, I really can't decide. I love them all. :)
