for those of you who are familiar with the great OAV Record of Lodoss War... who knows of the Record of Lodoss War television series? well, i have found more than many oportunities {maybe i'm deprived of sleep but that spelling doesn't look right} many opportunities to "purchase" it ::insert devious smile here:: however, the pics i saw of it don't look like they have been done by the same team who did the original. any comments on this? is it a good followup to the ofiginal? is it worth my time? thanks.

The number of episodes in the television series (26 compared to 13 in the OVA) allows for more character development but the animation isn't as good. But if you haven't seen the OVA and don't know what you are missing in the animation department it is really good. But I find the OVA was able to condense the story really well and it isn't as drawn out as the TV series.
No it doesn't look nearly as sharp or detailed as the OVA but its just that. Its a TV version compared to the OVA. I've seen most of the TV version and I do enjoy it. The openning to the TV series is one of my favorites. If you have seen the OVA first you kind of have to ignore most of what you have seen. Parts of the OVA are replayed in the TV series but redone in a slightly different manner. The TV series is supposed to happen 5 years after the OVA I think.
The true story of the TV series is about the next generation of heroes led by Spark. Some of the original heroes are still around. Good to see that Parn is still around and kicking some butt. Also, one of my favorite bad guys, Ashram is still looking damn smooth as always.
If you are a fan of the Loddoss War saga, I recommend it. Just keep an open mind about it if you've seen the OVA first. Oh and the Lodoss Island clips at the end are silly but entertaining as well.

well, i've been a fan of the Record of Lodoss Wars for quite some time. seen the OAV looooooooong ago, and been reading the manga sinse it first came out as well. the Record of Lodoss Wars are classics for me, that's why i was weary of the television series... i was worried that they'd go to ---- as most OAVs do once brought to television.
thanks though... i'll look forward to them. still haven't heard anything worth while of "purchasing" the boxset right away though... if anyone thinks it should move to the top of my list, then SPEAK UP! thanks. adieu^^

I've seen the first few tapes (like 4 or 5 volumes), and I think it's excellent. True, the drawins style is slightly different, but you have to know that the story takes place something like 10 years after the OAV, so the characters are supposed to look more adult. But the opening sequence alone is worth it, and the opening song is just terrific. The story is good and for a TV series, the animation is great.

So the TV series covers new material with the same characters?

I never saw the OAV's, but after seeing the first few eps of the TV series I decided:
1. It's too cliche, and takes itself too seriously. "I shall have to use.......THE SCEPTRE OF DOMINATION!"
"GASP!"
2. The second part, The Record of Lodoss Island, is cute but a little too much-and the SD versions of the characters don't seem to look or act that much like their regular-sized counterparts.
I'll have to see the OAV I suppose.
no. they reused the same characters but focused more on the new ones, namely Spark, a Parn-like person but cooler looking, Neese, Slayn's daughter, and a bunch of other new dudes.
dub sucked bad. and i mean REAL bad. except for that dwarf's voice. that was good. and slayn. what made me cringe was one part of the dialoge that went something like "fight hard, and be safe," except a lot cornier.
animation, inconsistant. VERY inconsistant. but when done right, they look great.
story line ... i liked the thing about ashram, and why he was doing what he did. and that's about it ...
music: opening theme and animation is AWESOME. that's the best part IMO.
other: fighting could've been WAY better. By this i mean more realistic. I HATED watching so many still shots!!! The lodoss islands got annoying but funny.
in conclusion: i didn't like it that much, but there are some who live it. it's all up to you. ^_^
oh and btw, IT'S 27 EPISODES! Not 26. I keep saying that but nobody listens to me. :D

the first 3 videos are how the book ended (i think) and it focuses more on orson which is great. i bought the box set just because i love the original. if you have an open mind and money to spend i say go for it. or you could just buy the first 3 videos because they arent really conjoined with the rest.

well... the OAV is a classic. it's not supposed to be realistic, it's all complete fantasy. i;m just gonna' have to wait for this one though... it's too 50-50....
Yui, you must see the OAVs they are WONDERFUL^^ adieu
True, it is a mixed bag. If you like Record of Lodoss War enough its pretty much a no brainer, but if you like the OVA too much then its harder to accept the TV series. Better to see if you can rent or borrow it first and decide for yourself if you get the chance.
the story of the tv series is a continuation of the war of heros in the ova, the battle with kardis and her minions in the ova is rewritten in the tv series. the story is rewritten and new main characters are introduced.
