View Full Version : What's it like...
I saw the trailer for it and immediately decided I liked the look of it. I was wondering I'm getting it for my birthday which is coming up and I was wondering how good I'll say would it be to show a whole group of my friends who are not familar with this anime or don't care about anime or are scared of anime???

It has a lot of references to Japanese culture, other animes and other otaku related stuff. I don't really think it's something you can show to friends who don't care about anime or are scared of it, I think you'll just scare them even more of it
I got Excel Saga based on the trailer - and absolutely loved it! Its best described as parody anime and rewards the viewer who is well versed in the 'rules of anime' as well as having seen a lot of anime titles.
Definately not a show to show to newbs - its not made for them anyway.

I disagree. Excel Saga was the first Anime that I showed my sister and she loved it. Just because you don't know what all of the references mean, it doesn't mean that it's not funny. I say go for it but just make sure to stay away from episode 26.

I lent DVD1 to one of my friends who isn't really an anime fan and he found it boring and stupid, thus didn't lend him the rest of the series.
And yeah I too bought Excel Saga because of the trailer :heh:
So you most of you don't recomend I scare my friends my friends any more than the already are.

excel saga isn't so evil that you can't show it to newbies....
hell, one of my good friends i've known less than a year, I single handedly got him onto anime
his first was bubblegum crisis tokyo 2040, he liked the first 2 eps so much he got the whole series...
his second breaking into anime was excel saga, he saw the first 2 eps and got the whole series and in turn showed his anime-virgin friends... and 9 out of the 10 were laughing by the end of the opening credits............
he's on chobits now <insert evil laugh>
but in short, Excel saga can be shown to newbies with no problems

It really depends on the people you show it too people who don't care about anime will not give a rats a$$ about it, I don't think any of my friends would stand watching even one episode of it. If theyr scared of anime you could give it a try. But lets be honest the only way to enjoy this series to the fullest is when you have seen a lot of anime.
