Anyone caught this yet? I'm liking it so far. Although it's only been one episode, it's got a good mix of action, comedy, and intrigue. That's all I can say for now. I just wanted to see who else has checked it out yet.

Here's some info (http://www.animenfo.com/animetitle,1265,mybywf,fullmetal_alche.html)

I've read the first volume of the manga, and it's good. The first episode of the anime keeps up that standard. I'll definitely be watching it.

Is this a sequel to Full Metal Panic?

Tsu san

Nay, in fact, it has nothing to with it. It's just some fad in naming things to call everything Full Metal (Full Metal Jacket, Full Metal Panic, Full Metal Alchemist, Full Metal Chaos etc.) methinks

Man, I've been just way too busy that I'm so backlogged on all these new animes I started.

Anyway, I finally caught the second ep. of FMA. I'll have to say that I will be enjoying this series. There isn't anything supremely fantastic about it, but it has the makings of a good watch. If anything, the humor stands out the most.

Now if only I can finally get around to the other series'...

I think a lot of my enjoyment of this will hinge on how much they explain and limit the Alchemy system. If they make it nice and technical, that would be cool. What I wouldn't want t see, is the alchemy becoming a cop-out.

Spanning 52 episodes, I'm really looking forward to this, based largely on the Square-Enix connection. Are they responsible for the manga, as well, or was that independantly written?

Although 52 episodes is a huge load on my hard drive... =/
Oh well, its interesting enough, lets just hope it doesn't turn into another shounen disaster like Tokyo Underground.

Oh dear god, please don't bring that disgrace up. If that happens, I'll stab my eyes out and jam them in my ears.

That would be interesting.

Well, I was trying to avoid this one simply because of the name: Full Metal Alchemist. There are way too many things named "Full Metal Something-or-other" out there. I told myself that I'd save space on my hard drive and just not watch it at all... and then I downloaded it anyway. So much for willpower.

The first episode was pretty good. Characters were interesting. Despite all odds I liked the brothers. Animation was very good. After one listen, I abhor the ending song. I hear that the ending from the first episode is actually the opening theme song for the rest, and it makes me cringe but I like this show enough to plug my ears and suffer past it just to see what happens next. Who knows... maybe after 52 episodes I'll like the darn thing.

Uuuh Dheu, perhaps you should check how the manga did before you pass judgement? Books and covers and all. . . .

I only heard good things about the manga, the series makes a good enough first impression. I'm willing to sit this one out. I'm a sucker for quasi scientific fantasy series, why else would someone bother with Scrapped Princess? ^^;;

And anyone who thought Tokyo Underground was more than bandwidth fodder should have their head examined.

You could've always refered to it with it's Japanese title 'Hagane no Renkinjutsushi', which translates as 'Steel Alchemist' instead of 'Full Metal Alchemist' =P

"Hagane no Renkinjutsushi" is too difficult for me to pronounce.

If it translates as "Steel Alchemist", then why is it being called "Full Metal Alchemist"? What is the point of "Full Metal"? Hmmm... maybe I'm thinking way too much about this.

Anyway, I've now seen up to episode 3. The opening theme is already starting to grow on me... I guess it's not going to take 52 episodes after all. The back story was interesting and I'm waiting to see more of what happens to them.

Silly townspeople, falling right into the same sort of trap with their "Conero-sama". Idiots.

Spoilers....

I seen up to 7 episodes so far. Each episode is picking up steam, with episode 7 being by far the most powerful episode so far. It's sad what Tucker-san did to his own family just to to satisfy his curiousity. I hope they kill that bastard. And the guy with the "cursed" arm had some cool alchemy going on, just used on an innocent chimera. I am very interested in where the story is heading.

Finally caught up on some anime, this being one of them.

The overall mood of this series has been light-hearted, but when they get into the serious issues, the mood actually becomes quite dark. The flow and story thus far has been solid and I can easily say now, after seven episodes, that this series is a good one.

The real test now is to see how they do long story arcs.

Oh, and yea, that last episode was jacked up.

** SPOILERS **

Ouch. Episode 7 was evil! How could they do that little Nina?! And she was the first little kid anime character that I didn't want anything to happen to.

Things really are getting darker. The episodes are getting better, too. I enjoyed the first few episodes, but now I'm actually looking forward to seeing what happens next.

Poor Nina.

I must say that his anime is living up to my anticipations.
In the first episodes the series got a "lighter" note to it, but it seems that the further you get in the series, the "heavier" the load is, not to mention that while the series revolves around alchemy and the two brothers, it seems to revolve around human nature, science and the concept of god, you can feel the intensity of those issues there.

I agree, WeirdIsraeli. This series follows Ed and Al, but it's really delving into the human psyche.

** SPOILERS **

Episode 8... yet another tense episode that's a lot more emotional than I thought this series would ever get. Long gone are the episodes when you think "this will be light and humorous".... wait, were there ever episodes like that in this series?

The scene in the warehouse was pretty shocking. It was really tragic seeing Ed caught in that situation and finally realizing his powerlessness and helplessness. You can just see the weight of the world sinking onto his shoulders through this whole episode, seeing those lines appear on his face like that. Poor kid.

And darn it, I was just looking for another humorous, light show to watch... and instead I get this. All the dark anime is gravitating towards me right now, I guess! Still... this one is so good that I have to see where it ends up.

Yeah, I never expected such deep development between 12 year olds!!

Episode 8 is as dark as it gets for this series so far. Barry the Chopper was freaky as hell!! My favorite part was when Edward got his "second name." That was pretty cool. I am going to start addressing him "Full Metal" from now on! Looks like Episode 9 is going to be toned down abit from the darkness of the past several episode. In either case, I am definately feeling this one.

SPOILERS

I thought I should go ahead and give this thread a bump! :D Episode 14 was a blood bath of sorts. (Is it me, or do see at least one person dead per episode?) In any case Edward and Al finally find some key information on the Philosopher's Stone. Too bad the information is top secret. Oh and "Mr. Scar" makes and apperance and do I mean make an apperance. He killed the Iron Blood Alchemist like it was no one's business. Plus we get a chance to see a new Alchemist user, Alex Louis Armstrong! He used alchemy pretty cool. I can't wait for episode 15, the infamous "Ishabal Massacre." I am really starting to get into this as each episode just sinks deeper and deeper into darkness. Truly some good stuff here.

I finally caught the latest episode myself. I agree, that episode was very violent. This series was already interesting, but now it's getting really good since the brothers are up against their first real, powerful enemy and what looks like the first, long story arc.

We'll just have to wait and see.

... Full Metal Alchemist or Steel Alchemist ... would that by any chance be the outcome of the project that Nobuhiro Watsuki mentioned as his followup to Rurouni Kenshin ... if I recall he called it Armoured Alchemist at the tiime of the inteview?

Actually, I don't think Watsuki has anything to do with this project but Arakawa Hiromu is the creator. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

On what I thought an interesting diversion http://www.siliconera.com/ps2/fullmetalalchemist/040228.htm

I think you are right ... just like there the fad of "full metal" in the title ... there seems to be a similar trend this year for Alchemy as a plot device.

Armored Alchemist. That would be Alphonse ^_~
FMA is a truely awesome series. I love it to death. It's so confusing though! In episode 51
(SEMI-SPOILER)

When Ed is in that alternate universe thing with his Father- WEIRD. And yet he was in the real world at the same time. I mean- Ok, you've got Ed in some weirdo coat and vest with his father, In Britan, sometime during WW1, I say weird.

(END SPOILER)

Spanning 52 episodes, I'm really looking forward to this, based largely on the Square-Enix connection. Are they responsible for the manga, as well, or was that independantly written?
Nay. 51 episodes, and A movie =]

can anyone answer this question?

What secret is Ed keeping from Al anyway? What is the truth about Al?

Is his existence only the cumulative memories that are derived from Ed? Is he even real?

Zoya

wow.... I still havent finished the series, but that sounds interesting..I doubt that Al isnt real because there are other characters who know him ( like the little girl and the old lady at the beginning, who game Ed his metal leg and hand)

**MAJOR SPOILER ALERT**

Alphonse is real - that's really his soul and memories bound to that armour. It's not really a secret that Ed is keeping from Al, he's just reluctant to ask Al a question. The question is whether Al hates him for being stuck in that armour.

When you see the end of the series (like I have) you'll very conclusive proof that Al is real.

I dont know about anyone else but the ending of episode 51 bugged the crap out of me. Does the movie pick up after that? Is the movie worth watching?

HolyWhippet
24-10-05, 12:31 AM
The "ending" did leave a lot unanswered. As for the movie, I downloaded what appeared to be a fansub of the movie last week. While it appear to be the movie, it's a shaky-cam recording ie. someone went into the theatre and recorded it. For that reason I didn't watch it so I've no idea how good the movie is.

I don't get why Hughes is in the opening sequence if he dies in the middle of the series. Does he come back to life or something?

Opening sequence of what? The movie? The very start of the movie seems to be a flashback since, well, if you've seen the end of FMA you know it has to be a flashback.
