View Full Version : HAck//sign and Final Fantasy XI ... The World is almost here~!

Hack//sign is nearer to us then you expect. Early next year you'll get a chance to play Final Fantasy XI on both Playstation II and computer. This has idea has been around, but finally someone like SQUARE actually capture both the console and Computer gaming fan bases and therefore creating enough people to populate "The World" of hack//sign. (side note: there's around half a million subscribers to Everquest)

You'll get the immersion that Hack//sign tries to protray the people playing it has... What you'll have to do is find a group of friends "in game" that you don't even know and take it from there... That element makes this game more "real" and probably will live up to my expectations of FF XI.

Slated for next year Final Fantasy XI proposes to take Online RPG to a new level... Hopefully the same way Final Fantasy reshaped our idea of Console RPG's...

I've looked into Everquest and it's success in making the Online RPG what it is today... I'm very happy of the improvements it had over the last 5 years or so...

But For years I've looked for an anime RPG... but so far There's been a slew of Medieval Tolken type RPGs that simply don't look or feel like anime...

::RUMORS::

FFXI: What I've seen and heard is that it takes the Limit breaks system from FF 8 to make a 100-300% Special attacks.... Something that I know very well Everquest doesn't have.

EQ: What Everquest does have timed "abilities" (aka. after 6 secs you can kick, Backstab, forage for food, etc...)

FFXI: Looks alot like EQ... In Polygons and Character designs... Even the surroundings (ex. Trees, buildings, etc) look alot like EQ. This may be true since because humanoids have to look like humanoids... and buildings have to look like buildings. But the truth is that Everquest II is promising better graphics very soon after FFXI's debut.

EQ: Everquest is planning to release EQ II which runs on something like an "Unreal Tournament" type graphics engine... This will make Everquest II more pleasing to the eye then FFXI. I've seen screenshots and I'm pretty sure Sony EQ will have the resources to back the promises.

I'm only posting these 2 ideas since I want to know what you think the Final Fantasy Series means to you...

Did you like the Novelty effect of combo's and almost ground breaking RPg landmarks or are you just mystified by the Final Fantasy CG effects?

p.s. Dot.Hack is coming!

Gunblade
16-10-03, 07:51 PM
did you write that?

I'm gonna get it for PC hopefully but no way is it even near .Hack except for a fantasy world.

Until I'm actually IN the game and able to use real time combat and fight my own battles how i want to i.e if I want to use a triple slash, foward thrust up jump and down slash combo I can using the power of my mind, then maybe ;)

I still believe that .Hack doesn't use the mouse and keyboard for movement and attack. No way could they map everything you seen on screen as a keyboard and mouse combination. If it was everyone would have given up even trying to play it :p

Kyrakasa
16-10-03, 09:06 PM
Yes I wrote that... ^_~

unless it's one of my other personalities... but it definitely was me~!

Now that's another question... Are people still hung up that they can't "Ride a chocobo?"

That they have to type in... /ride yellow fluffy bird ?

To me that's not a problem because if you look at Hack//sign, THEY USE MICE AND KEYBOARDS...

They TYPE IN /log out to get out of the game... And that's one thing Tsukasa can't do...

(Now talking about Tsukasa being in a coma and playing... I'm not advocating FFXI putting people into comas) :p

Oh I'm not saying the keyboard and mouse aren't being used for things like messages and stuff but I've yet to see an explanation for every possible movement such as hugging (What's the point?), touching a flower with your finger (A bit to precise no?), Waving your sword how ever you want (Some hell of a mouse and keyboard commands), cartwheels and climbing and acrobatics (Would that really be programmed into a game with keyboard and mouse?), Sitting by the window sill (If it's just moving by keyboard and mouse would that not be stupid as to just select sit on sill?)

All these questions... Can we truly say that all these are done by keyobard and mouse? And with some of those other actions like the hugging in ep 16 sort of makes it feel INCREDIBLY corny if Mimuru wanted a hug and used her keyboard and mouse to do it. Sure they have the VR helmet but remember that the Silver Knight actually felt pain on the other end when attacked by the guardian.

Now with a a standard vr helmet it's impossible. To be honest that would make Tsukasa falling into the world impossible... Now unless there was some brain activity and connection invloved...

Sorry, felt like ranting... :D

Thing is, the game of the World is never really explained clearly but maybe later on in the series... I hope.

Sure they have the VR helmet but remember that the Silver Knight actually felt pain on the other end when attacked by the guardian. -GunBlade-

You want to feel pain while playing a Roleplaying game? You say you have to feel pain and hugging to be in game? That's completely wrong... Even if you can feel pain it can't be more than a threshhold level where you can't stand it anymore... And it's unethical... And talking about hugging, hugging leads to other things, and I really don't want to talk about that...

::Kyrakasa walks in a room where GunBlades has this really UGLY Silly thing hooked up to his head::

Gunblade- {I hate this. This game isn't real at all. That scorpion just poisoned me and I didn't feel a thing}

::Kyrakasa sighs in exasperation... ::

Kyrakasa- {You're playing that dumb game again... Aren't you......}

Kyrakasa- {OMG... You're still level 2? }

::Kyrakasa smirks:: :dodgy:

Kyrakasa- {Here I'll help you... You'll never get anywhere like that~! You can't get into the game like that... You have to feel the game!!}

::Kyrakasa types something on the keyboard and logs in::

::Kyrakasa pinches Gunblade's face til it's a nice bright red::

Gunblade- { Itai-ta ta... Ow... Why you do that?}
:eek2:

::Gunblades whimpers around, clutching his face::

Kyrakasa- {Anta Baka~! don't you know that Role playing means you don't feel it? That's the whole point for roleplaying}

Kyrakasa- {Now tell me if you would like me to stand around you and pinch you everytime someone pinches you in a role playing game?}

Kyrakasa- {You better concentrate on the game... It looks like that scorpion brought his friends...}

::Kyrakasa looks in her bag and finds a box of pocky sticks::

Kyrakasa- {I'll poke you with a pocky stick, everytime a scorpion stings you... OK~? That's the only way you'll be a master MAge and Swordsman...}

::Gunblade starts jumping around in the game and in real life::

Kyrakasa- {Hey stop fooling around and Kill the scorpions...}

::A voracious Scorpion stings Gunblade::

::A voracious Scorpion stings Gunblade in the right abdomen::

Gunblade- {Ugg.. yeow...Hey stop stabbing my stomach...}

Kyrakasa- {Ugh..... That had to hurt}

::Another voracious Scorpion stings Gunblade in the eye::

Gunblade- {ack... My forehead}

Kyrakasa- {I didn't want to poke you in the eye... But geez... You're helpless}

::Kyrakasa grabs a hand full of pocky sticks and continues to stab Gunblade while typing on the computer::

::Kyrakasa summons a fiery red orb::

Kyrakasa- {Al... Bia Who Fa-se...}

::The fiery orb suddenly bursts open and engulfs the scorpions in flames::

::The scorpion's corpses lie scorched to a crisp at Gunblades feet::

Gunblade- { Whew... Now that's a game...>...}

::Gunblade takes his helmet off and notices he has alot of melted pocky stick chocolate all over his face and clothes...:: :lol:

Your misunderstanding the level of interactivity...

Again you misunderstand me though ^_^

I'm not saying anything about "touch" but how they interact with the game world. The hugging thing, I wasn't talking about touch cause i know they wouldn't feel anything what i was talking about was how they "control" their character.

In current games you can't hug, you can't shake hands, you can't do cartwheels, you can't climb buildings, you can't somersault, you can't move indivdual fingers etc...

BUT in the world they can and I'm saying that surely such "precise" and "free" movement cannot be all mouse and keyboard alone.
After all when Mimuru and Bear were talking about Tsukasa not being able to log out surely it would be an absurd thing to talk about if it was just a vr helmet and keyboard. It's just the same as a monitor and keyboard except with a big honking thing on your head.
But they talked about it like, that maybe it was a "remote" possibilty and that can only happen if they were linked to the game in some small way.

Nothing to do with touch at all.

Kyrakasa

Again you misunderstand me though ^_^

No, no.... Not I...

Well apparently you haven't played the RolePlaying Games I've played.

I can do anything I want to do... including doing a somersault over to you and poking you with pocky sticks... I can do absolutely anything I want to do...

You want me to do a cartwheel?

Well, you have to do something for me... "Go read a good book and come back and tell me why it's a good book"

Then I'll do the cartwheel... ok?

BUT in the world they can and I'm saying that surely such "precise" and "free" movement cannot be all mouse and keyboard alone.
I do it all the time with a keyboard and mouse... I've roleplayed 2 people that way with 2 keyboards and 2 mice

After all when Mimuru and Bear were talking about Tsukasa not being able to log out surely it would be an absurd thing to talk about if it was just a vr helmet and keyboard. It's just the same as a monitor and keyboard except with a big honking thing on your head.
That's my point, I'm glad you finally understand.

But if You want to wear an ugly thing on your head? go ahead... But Hack//sign isn't Ghost in the Shell... Your body and soul are not involved.

But they talked about it like, that maybe it was a "remote" possibilty and that can only happen if they were linked to the game in some small way.

they are playing a computer game... They are linked by imagination and a keyboard and mouse... Nothing more...

If you want to think that they are in "The matrix?" or "Ghost in the Shell" then you have the wrong movie.

Nothing to do with touch at all.
That's right Mimiru, subaru, Bear, BT, blahh... blah... never touch anyone in real life... It's all computerized...
You can do everything they do in Hack//sign with Your imagination and a keyboard and mous...

P.s. I already know what you're planning to do... (You'll reply saying that I misunderstood you and that You really mean that We should touch each other... Yada... yada... yadddaaaa...) If you do that I'll explain again why They didn't touch each other, So just give up and admit your wrong... :p

I'll just ask... What roleplaying game which gives you such freedom that you can do ANYTHING you want with just your mouse and keyboard.
Are you saying that you can do anything?

I'm still saying nothing about touch so your wrong... Well the in the sense of "feeling" I don't believe they feel anything in the game.

I'll ask you one question... And answer it seriously.

Do the characters not move in anyway they want to in terms of how the move their arms, legs and head?

I'm an open minded person... I'll admit i have the possiblity of being completely wrong and they really are just using their mouse and keyboard to do ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING, which to be honest for me seems a bit much.

But until there is ABSOLUTE proof I don't give in... All I debate is the POSSIBILITY... And there is, no matter how remote cause again let's be honest. How on earth can the real life person behind Tsukasa get sucked into a game using just a vr helmet which is only an output device.

Yes i know it's anime but that's stil ltoo far fetched for it and would be EXTREMELY lazy story telling.

"He was sucked in just because..."

Wow... I could pull something better out my ass that that.

Oh you never answered the one where BT leaves her weapon by the table and decides to go to the Window sill to sit and stare at the night sky ^_^

Wow... I could pull something better out my ass that that.
-Gunblade-

Really? I don't really think you could... Since you lack an imagination.

That's exactly how they interact... Keyboard and mouse? perhaps so, but most importantly through their intellectual imagination.

I hope you understand now.

You keep thinking Hack/sign is some type of "MAtrix" or "Ghost in the Shell" storyline... but it's much simpler.

Wow... No one here likes or even cares about Final Fantasy...

I'm very surprised... Otherwise this thread was highjacked... :p

Oh if you saw what was in my head a lot of the time you'd go insane...

And I'm not saying anything about Matrix style or completely sucked into the world... I'm just saying that there must be some sort of other device or thing that allows them to control their character i nthe way they do.

You tell me that everything they do can be keyboard and mouse and then maybe...

Like I said I can accept being wrong BUT never without proof. You're giving me nothing but personal opinion :/

Though it may seem like petty arguing I do like a good debate ^_^

But a debate backed up with facts and evidence ;)

Of which you may say, where are my facts?
True i have none, but I have evidence... Not exactly facts but things which lean to my side of view :)

And on this topic for once...
Who says no one likes final Fantasy? I love it :p

Though it's gonna come on a Hard Drive pre installed and it's the only way you can play + It'll probably cost $100/£80.

so rumours go.

Gah >_<

Kyrakasa

The New PS2 with a DVD burner will come with the Hard drive + Final Fantasy 12 online preinstalled. It will be $12 a month for playing the online RPg... but you get the game free~!

As with evidence, I've shown all my evidence.

1. they use a keyboard
2. They use a mouse
3. They use a helmet instead of a monitor
4. there is no way to control things except you see everything through their Imagination

5. Not Matrix...
6. Not Ghost in the Shell

there is no way to control things except you see everything through their Imagination

there is no way to control things except you see everything through their Imagination

there is no way to control things except you see everything through their Imagination

oops...
did I say They have nothing more than a keyboard and mouse and their Imagination?

I better not forget to say that...

p.s. I'm sorry for saying you don't have an imagination... It just seems that you lack faith in your own imagination

Gunblade
23-10-03, 06:11 PM
Ok, true true... but it is a PC after all... they need the mouse and keyboard to write and select icons no? :p

And it's 2010... how do we know the Helmet doesn't read Brain waves :p

Hey it sounds stupid but scientists were or are researching such devices...

When they login it sure looks like their completely immersed into the thing. How the move, how they react...

To me (As in personal) I really don't see how all that can be mouse and keyboard.

Ask yourself... EVERYTHING that you see in the world... All the characters, all the animation, all the movement, all the freedom...

Is that mouse and keyboard mappable? Or actually a better question, if it was would it be playable?

Actually do we ever see them controlling their characters?

Mav
23-10-03, 07:21 PM
I think the way they move in the game is a little bit of artistic license. It wouldn't look very good to the viewer if the most they could do is /wave to each other...

Kyrakasa
23-10-03, 07:41 PM
The helmet reads brainwaves...?

No helmet can do that.

All existing technology on brain waves includes EEG's and MRI's and FMRi's can not do any of that...

They can tell you what section (ex. Left part of the Broca's area 16) is being used. But that's the extent... Nothing can translate that signal into something for the computer to read.

The only possible way for that to happen is if you were electronicly attached...

Like MATRIX AND GHOST IN THE SHELL...

p,s, I can Wave in as many ways as you want... I just have to roleplay it... with imagination.

~_~

:liplick:

Gunblade
23-10-03, 07:52 PM
Mav: Maybe but then what's the point? After all it isn't reallife... to me, when it comes to any sort of fiction what we see should be what IS. Thus if they're waving in all different fashions that's what they should be doing.

Back to the hugging thing... If that is really artisitic license and their not really hugging that defeats the point of the whole thing and Subaru wouldn't have asked for a hug...

Also the hug would have to be prgrammed into the game and given a set of mouse/keyboard commands to hug...

Sounds stupid and would be pointless :/

now on the whole thing that everything we see is the imagination of everyone in the game...

---- me that's some imagination o_O

I dunno... to me if what is really happening is just a game engine with everything everyone's imagination sort of ruins the whole experience of "The World".

And like i said before, it also puts the whole thing of Tsukasa getting sucked into the game because he was SO involved sorta blows goats... :p

About that brain scanner thing... Don't look at me, I just heard it somewhere, I'm serious... something about reading electrical signals or some crap. which is what it probably was crap but then I can't remember.

And back onto FFXI. Anyone got any more details about the world, the fighting system and more in depth information on it? i think I'll get it for the PC if it ever comes out for it in the UK :/

But i'm already paying for Planetside >_<

And like i said before, it also puts the whole thing of Tsukasa getting sucked into the game because he was SO involved sorta blows goats... -gunblade-

You're counterpoints don't make any difference at all...

Even if there is a ""BRAIN WAVE SCANNER"" you still can't explain how a person is "Stuck" in game and gone into a coma...

The difference I've always seen Since I think you're more familiar with the MAtrix than Ghost in the Shell, is that in the MAtrix you are Physically stuck...

But in Hack//sign it's only symbollic... (A person who really hates everyone and everything in the real world can exist in the game and almost dissapear from the real world. And exist in an Almost coma like state...)

So you see you don't need to try to explain how Tsukasa was stuck in game... No one can... Even stretching it as far as possible, you still can't.

FF 12? has these child like elf magic users that look like what you get when an elf eats too much or they could look like a cutified hobbit...

Symbolic?

In what do you mean by symbolic...

The VR helmet could be part input device, thus his soul gets sucked in?

Yeah I know I could be talking out my arse but then I always have to rationalise everything I see. i'm no science freak, I believe in stuff which can't always be justified but then this is anime here not ghosts or what ever.

So seeing Tsukasa get being trapped in a game where there is no device that does not link you to the game in some way does not make sense to me.

Seeing characters do what they want i.e hig, sit o na window sill, climb onto any wall, probaly swim if they really wanted to using just a mouse and keyboard does not not make sense to me.

Again i do understand why you think I'm reffering to matrix style "plugging in" but I am talking about only partial involvement where you can still feel the outside world, the reallife world but yet you can also control the character in game.

Oh and it's FFXI ;) 12 is another FF game that's coming out later next year i hear. I hear FFXI coming out in the US VERY soon... As in couple of days soon?

Is the PC version coming out at the same time?

Symbolic?

Yah.. you heard me ~_~

In what do you mean by symbolic...

As in having a deeper meaning... for instance If I said that the world is jello in my hands... I don't really mean the world is jello... Does that make sense?

The VR helmet could be part input device, thus his soul gets sucked in?

And the helmet sucking in your soul makes more sense to you, then having the coma be symbolic?

Coma= introversion and withdrawal from society...

then I know a guy named, the Devil , who really wants to buy that soul-sucking helmet...

Yeah I know I could be talking out my arse but then I always have to rationalise everything I see. i'm no science freak, I believe in stuff which can't always be justified but then this is anime here not ghosts or what ever.

I'm sorry speaking from your arse is not "always have to rationalise everything I see"

Also I can see that you have no clue what Ghost in the shell is about.

So seeing Tsukasa get being trapped in a game where there is no device that does not link you to the game in some way does not make sense to me.

GREAT... IT MAKES ZERO SENSE TO ME ALSO~!

Maybe... just Maybe finally you're understanding????

Seeing characters do what they want i.e hig, sit o na window sill, climb onto any wall, probaly swim if they really wanted to using just a mouse and keyboard does not not make sense to me.

:: Kyrakasa opens the window::

::You sit on the window sill::

::You fall 20 feet and land on a bed to your surprise...::

:: You see kyrakasa laughing at you out of the window::

::You're really glad to be alive::

"And you forget that she just pushed you out and you laugh with her..."

Ok... Now read that again, and USE IMAGINATION!!

Ok so we both agree it makes zero sense for Tsukasa to be stuck in the World then? ^_^

About that imagination and symbolism... Shouldn't what we see on the screen BE what is?

i'm all for using my imagination... when it comes to real life stuff but when I'm watching something i expect to be spoon fed :)

You say that all I've stated is them using their imagination... Fine I have no arguments that they might be but at the same time I also feel that if their actually doing that why should I have to use my imagination.

When you play a rpg do you imagine every single thing you do is something different? For example, i play planetside. ok hardly an rpg but still a vast online world with some rpg elements :)
But I don't imagine or pretend to stare out of a window, sit on a window sill, pick a flower up from the ground.
The game does not allow for that thus why would I imagine wanting to do that?

You say everything is complete imagination, so what use is the interface of the world then? That's how i interpret your speech by the way, cause i can't seem to interpret it any other way.

Right now i have this brain block where I have all these feelings about what i'm trying to say but I can't put it into words... Pain in the ass I tell ya cause I feel that above few paragraphs still isn't conveying what i'm trying to say.

You may think that it'd be the same as what's up there but really what i'm trying to convey is different from that... No really :p

P.S When did I mention GitS? :/
P.S.S So when is FFXI being released in the US?

That and i hear it's rather expensive per month :(

You get random servers...
You have an interface exactly like Hack/sign's interface provided by Play/Online.com ... You get free e-mail, Tetra-master Cardgame, Chatrooms, instant messages... Just like Hack/sign...

In a way Hack/sign is modeled after FF XI... Since It was released last year in Japan I think? May 2002?

but You can Double Class in FF XI... So you can be a Red MAge + Ninja if you want...

I'm currently entertaining the idea of a Red Mage + Dragoon or Some other melee combination...

Your support class though is only half as powerful as your main one... That's why I would make the melee as a support to boost HP and VITALITY...

Also Ninja's can Duel Wield... Redmages can enchant their weapons... So I'm thinking of maybe Duel wielding some Flaming swords or maybe Lightning swords...

But at the end with RedMage/Ninja you are at best even with the best magic equipment only 70% as strong as a Black Mage/WhiteMage and with the best Melee equipment only 70% as strong as a Full Ninja/Warrior...

but one thing is nice... Every 2 hours, RedMAges have the ability to chain cast... So they can cast with no waiting in between... That is pretty powerful~!

Yah... I mean it plays like Everquest...

And it's real time... No battle screens at all... If you want action, You can kite... if you want... I haven't tried here though... Red MAges don't have all that good kiting spells or ranged weapons...

Kiting is actually killing an mob in transit...

kiting = Killing In Transit.... basically running around so that the monster doesn't get close enough to hit you... You ussually do this to mobs that can't cast spells... duh...
